I did four days – Thursday, Friday, Monday, Tuesday. I hadn’t planned on Tuesday, but needed it because we spent so much time with family on Sunday and Monday I was still exhausted and hadn’t had a chance to get any rest.
I could have done without Thursday if I hadn’t done my own flowers, or if I had someone that could have taken delivery of them for me on Thursday.

- Wedding: August 2013 - Brookfield Zoo
I did two weeks; one week leading up to the wedding weekend, then the week after for the honeymoon. It was perfect!

@jwdesiree: I am taking 7 vacations days off work. I will take Wednesday to Friday the week before, and then Tuesday to Friday the week after (our wedding is on May long weekend so the Monday is a holiday). My family is in town…now way am I going to be stuck at work while everyone is having fun.

I’m taking the Thursday/Friday before the wedding and then 2 weeks after the wedding for our honeymoon. After that we get a week and a half off for christmas so the total is going to be 20 working days. We got lucky with being able to set up our honeymoon leading right into Christmas.

I have the luxury of getting excellent PTO at my job, so I took full advantage. I took off the week prior to the wedding to get last minute preperations done. I’m really really glad I did this, as we had an off-site venue and I did lots of DIY. I think this would be less necessary if we went with a more traditional, all-inclusive venue.
We knew we wanted to do a big trip for the honeymoon and we settled on an African safari. But I knew we’d be way too exhausted right after the wedding to leave for Africa immediately after the wedding. So the day after the wedding we went on a “mini-moon” Because we could stay at my grandmother’s for free, we went to Ft. Lauderdale. I was really glad we got the time to relax after the wedding madness and sleep and relax and just enjoy each other. If we had stayed home we would have been dealing with post-wedding stuff and it wouldn’t have been relaxing. Then we’re going on our honeymoon in a couple weeks!
So while it is always nice to have more time I think that 2 days before the wedding to prep and 2 days after the wedding for a mini-moon would work fine! Just be sure to not leave wedding stuff to the last minute, since you won’t have a ton of time at the end.

I took 18 days PTO total. It was somewhat controversial at the time, but I really needed it. Besides getting married, my Fiance was finally moving in with me. I didnt want to be distracted with working when all of these big changes were taking place.

My wedding was on a Saturday and I took off the Wednesday-Friday before the wedding, then the entire week after (mostly because we had a lot of out of country guests). We went on a mini-moon the Friday after the wedding and returning the Monday since the Monday was a long weekend. So all in all, we took off less than 2 weeks.
So in total 8 days, plus 2 weekends & 1 public holiday – 13 days in total.

I’ve been taking off a few previous Fridays for things, and then I’m taking (this Thursday and Friday) – 2 days before. As for the honeymoon, I’m taking 5 days off then (our honeymoon’s in a few weeks – not directly after the wedding).

@jwdesiree: Can you do that in the states?
Here in the UK it is very frowned upon. You could get away with it if you blamed it on SO no knowing when half term is or having booked something before starting at a new teaching post.
We are having ours in the long summer holidays so I get to have time to deal with las tminute arrangements and chasing up of vendors so I have to say for our wedding I’m having 6 weeks but Fiance has booked day before and the week after.

Wow, Bees, you’ve made me feel much better (well, more “normal,” haha) for wanting to take time off for just the wedding (not my honeymoon)!!! I only have eight sick/personal days remaining for 2014 (I took four days off for my mother’s memorial service in Jersey), so I don’t feel so terrible for definitely taking off the Monday and Tuesday after my wedding and the Friday before, and maaaaybe the Thursday before (depending on Out of Town guests).

@jwdesiree: I actually posted a topic similar to this several months ago! I ended up taking Wed, Thurs, Fri off before the wedding (MUCH needed) and went right back to work on Monday! On Sunday, we had brunch then broke down the venue with family and friends & relaxed. It was plenty of time off. We left for our honeymoon a week later.

@Dareebs: Bah, I knew I should have searched for this topic before posting. I hate excessive posts on the same exact thing :/ Thanks for the info, though!!

@jwdesiree: Wedding is on a Sunday. I’m taking the Friday before off, plus the two weeks and a Monday after the wedding. So, my last day of work is a Thursday, and my first day back is te Tuesday 2 weeks later. So, a total of 12 vacation days.

Thats a good question…we are getting married on a friday, so I will be taking (at least) the Wed-Friday off. We are leaving for our honeymoon on Sunday (2 days after wedding) and will be gone for a week and then i’ll take the day after we return from the honeymoon off just to get settled and unpacked. So I will probably take between 10-12 days off?
