It really depends on how many pictures you want.  My ceremony is at 6:30, and we’re starting pictures at 3, but we also have a couple different locations we want to use, so it’ll have a bit of traveling.

Try making a list of all the photos you absolutely want, and talk to the photographer.  Ask him/her if it’s enough time to complete those photos, and then some.

@LovebirdsSC: My photographer gave us this guideline:

-if you are doing BM/GM pictures BEFORE the wedding while getting ready, the BM/getting dressed should take 60-90 min depending how many girls and the Groomsmen should take 45-60 min.

-for the typical family, wedding party and bride/groom photos you should set aside 60-90 minutes, depending on how many poeple are there, and that is assuming that all of the BM/GM photos are done.

For my wedding with a wedding party of 6 including us and only 8 family members between the two of us (including grandparents and siblings), she told us we would likely need 60 minutes for Bridesmaid or Best Man pictures, 45 minutes for Groomsmen pictures and probably 45-60 min for the rest of the family/wedding party/Bride and Groom photos.

@LovebirdsSC: It really depends on how many people are in your bridal party, how many formals you want, and how many family portraits you want. If your wedding is over at 4, could you wait and do portraits then? If your wedding is in May you should have plenty of time after that for pictures (I think the sun went down at like 8 at our May wedding).
