i’m having my ceremony in a non-traditional church and they say they only accept donations as the "fee" for the use of the space. I’m not at all familiar with what’s appropriate to donate in such an instance. I’d love to donate lots, but I’m on a budget so I’m trying to sort out what is fair to both of us.
Anyone out there in the same boat? How much did you donate?
Thanks girlies. I really appreciate your input!

I just asked the priest, "What is the suggested donation to thank you for the use of the church?" and he told me. Simple as that.
So just ask them for the ‘suggested donation’ or ‘what would be an appropriate donation’.

That totally makes sense, but I’m nervous that either:
a) he’ll quote a ridiculous number, because they’ve only had one other wedding there, and he might not know what’s normal
or b) he’ll leave it up to me to suggest a number, which brings me back to square one.
How ’bout it Bees? What did your church cost ya? I could really use your input!

I did some research on this site, and I found anywhere from $100-$2000!!! The $2000 was for a gothic church in LA, so I think it would depend on the church and the location. I think for an average church, $150-$200 would be good.
I am using my own church so there is no donation for the use of the space. But I am giving my pastor $150 for his services, most of which he will keep for himself. (He will probably give 30% or more back to the church) So if you are using one of their pastors, keep that in mind as well.
