Hey bees –
Fi and I are attending a wedding tomorrow and are planning to give cash, as we know it’s what the couple really wants. The question is – how much? Fi considers the groom one of his best friends and is a groomsman. We are also both friendly with his girlfriend and have known her for years. We both had to fly to the wedding and are getting a room. I want to give a generous gift, but Fi is starting business school in the fall so it’s not as though we have unlimited funds. Bees, what do you think is appropriate?
Thanks a million!

I am sure the couple will appreciate what you can afford. I am sure they are somewhat aware of you financial situation (Fi n school, planning your own wedding). How much would you have spent on a gift? Just give them that. But, generally, I think $50 and up is good.

@RobinBananas: Give what you can afford. FH and I normally give a $25 gift card or a gift from a registry when we go to weddings, but none of our close friends have gotten married yet. We would probably do fifty for someone we knew really well, although DO WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD. That’s ultimately more important.
