@DrAroos:  First of all, that is a GORGEOUS venue. Congratulations, and enjoy getting married in such a beautiful place!

I think you should cut back on the fruit, but I don’t think you should cut back on the cake. It would be so awkward if half the guests received cake and the other half were sitting around waiting for it. Are the slices being set in front of guests, or do they walk over to the dessert table to pick up a slice? If it’s the latter, I think you could get away with having fewer slices cut.

@DrAroos:  If the cake cutting fee is high, would it be a lesser total cost to have the venue do the cake?

You;ll have to check the contract, but I don’t think you get to say, I’ll order for X number of people.  I think it’s more of a head count thing.  For instance, when I ordered a dessert bar, my caterer just charged me the number of people I had.  I’m not sure you can say, I only want enough for half my guests.

@DrAroos:  I can see why! It’s definitely a venue I’ve dreamt about.

As a guest, it doesn’t really matter to me. Your guests will probably start dancing before the staff gets the cake cut, so it’s less wasteful and cheaper to have them grab a slice from the table if they actually want one.
