A friend/ acquaintance literally just became a legal officiant. yes he is legal, yes he can marry us in TX
Neither of us know how much i should pay him. This would be his first wedding.
The other pastor I had lined up has years of experience and wanted $120
He was the cheapest as the rest went up from there.
Should I offer $50? $75?
I dont want to low ball, but i do want to keep in mind that it is his first one.
I also want to keep in mind that he lives in another city, about 35 miles away from my venue
What do yall think?

I think $75 is reasonable, especially as you are the guinea pig.

ok just offered him $75 right before you answered , i think that was the most reasonable price.
thanks for responding

I think $75 + travel fees is nice.
Where I live the price is set by the govt. So brand new is the same price as 25 years. They can only charge more if they customize it, and travel expenses are additional.

oh wow thats pretty crazy. In tx they arent even registered with the governement

I’d do minimum $100. He will have to put some work/time into what he is going to say. He will also have to orchestrate the rehearsal (assuming you’re having one & don’t have a wedding coordinator). So it’s not like he just has to stand there for 30 mins.
