We are having two pastors at our destination wedding. The first one is a close friend who actually introduced Fiance and I. He is actually the pastor of my church in my hometown. He would be marrying us on his own, but we are having a destination wedding and he’s not legally allowed to marry us in another state. Enter pastor #2 who is friend of a friend of a friend (you get the idea…). Really, this other guy is there to do the legal stuff, but our pastor friend is doing everything else.
Our pastor friend won’t let us pay him, so we will just get him a gift. We asked pastor #2 last night how much he charged and he said he would leave it up to us.
How much should we be paying him?

Standard amounts are different in different places. Where I live, it’s usually $150-$200 for a pastor at your own church, and tends to be a bit more for a pastor at a church where you’re not a member. But, in larger cities and more expensive areas, I think it can get up to $400 and more. The expected fee is usually listed somewhere in the church’s materials on weddings (my church has a little pamphlet they give out).
Can you look it up and see if his church has any guidelines? That will at least give you a sense of what he’s accustomed to. Then you can make a judgement call on what’a appropriate.

I am paying $150 for mine but that is a discount since we are also doingcore marital counseling with him. I would give between $200- 300.

Our minister recomends 250-350$ but more if travel is needed.
