I usually spend $50, more if it’s a closer friend.

I’m loving those onesie stickers you can purchase from ETSY.com – usually about $10, they have all different designs and they have one for each month that they stick on a plain onesie and take a picture each month.  Just search for “onesie stickers”

i’ve gotten to the point where i only buy useful stuff like burp clothes (cloth diapers work really well for this), onesies, etc. my mom friends have told me those are the most useful gifts because they go through so many and can’t always find the time to do laundry so it’s nice to have a ton of them.

@Utopia4us:  I’ve ordered them several times – arrived withing in 4-5 days, usually you can pay a couple of extra bucks and tell them you need a rush delivery!

Also, maybe a spa service for the mom?  Mani and/or pedi @ a nice spa in her area?  We gave a friend a massge package for her that she used after the baby came!  Ran about $75/hour.

A kind of care package would be great, speaking from a momma lol. She’s probably got the main things, I’d say to spend 30-40 on things like diapers (you can NEVER have too many) wipes shampoo and conditioner, a couple pacifiers, maybe a cute outfit, a light weight hat, bibs, baby blanket, teething rings (although I didn’t need them for about 5 months) just a bundle of baby things

I voted $50-60, but for a “not too close” friend like you seem to be describing I’d probably try to go in that range with a 20% Babies R Us coupon, putting me in the $40-50 range.  I’ve spent $75-100 for my close friends and over $100 for my siblings.  I usually also throw in a handmade crocheted blanket if that counts money wise.

I ALWAYS buy from registries since that is what the people actually wanted, but in this case that sounds difficult.  I’d get clothes (a little larger size) and/or a giftcard.  The spa gift card for mom is also a pretty cute idea since it sounds like they have most of what they need at this point.  She probably needs it- especially after a preemie!  Glad it sounds like babes is doing well!

$30-50 for someone i know but not that close too.  several hundred for a good friend.  i’ve purchased everything from strollers, car seats, to breast pumps. and on top of that airline tickets to the baby shower and the one month after birth party that is traditional in our culture.  at that party i usually give another $100 in cash.

@Utopia4us:  Buy a pack of diapers and an outfit for 6 months, 9 months or 12 months.  Most people buy newborn and 0-3 month so the mommy will be happy to have the larger size for later on.

I would spend around $50. You can get her practical things. Like bibs, socks, and burp cloths.

@Utopia4us:  i usually get a variety of sizes. the 0-3 months don’t last long because baby grows out of that size fast so i’ll only get a couple of those and then some 3-6 and 6-9 month.

eta- since the baby is a preemie, i would get more 0-3 month onesies. it might take awhile for her to grow out of them.
