In my fiance’s family, it’s customary for the best man to buy the bands. I am picking mine out now, and I don’t know how much is too much. They told me “to pick out whatever I want.”
I’m really leaning toward this one:http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?page=4
(second to last one on the page. the one with no stones)
But I feel like $420 is a lot to ask someone else to spend.
What do you think?
Also, my fiance wants a cheap titanium band (less than $100)

If you really, really like one, why don’t you offer to pay for a part of it, if he’s not able to pay for all of it?
Or, you could also let him know that wedding bands range from 100$ to, like 5000$ and that if he let you know how much he would be willing to pay for it, it gives you an idea? That way, if you can’t find anything in his prices, you cover the rest.
Worth the shot.

If that is the tradition in your Fiance family, I think it it perfectly fine to ask. $420 seems very reasonable for a wedding band.

- Wedding: June 2010 - Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
We’ve been stuck finding things we liked in the 1k-2k range, so that sounds like an awesome price to me.

That’s a great price for platinum. And a really cool band!

My wedding band cost $2000 I think it is fine. however I paid for my own so I would feel awkward having someone else have top fork out heaps of money just because I have expensive taste.

I’m hoping to find one under 1k so it sounds fine to me.
Although I have to ask– is it also tradition for the best man to be a family member? If not it seems a little odd to me… “it’s our tradition to have someone else pay,” ya know? Although if ALL the family members did it and always picked other family members then I see how it would work.

@CorgiTales: Haha! You are right. Always a family member for sure! That would be awkward otherwise! I guess if it wasn’t a family member the traditionn would be skipped.

I think everyone has a different opinion on how much is “too much” for a wedding band. My wedding band will be $60 and Fiance will be $99. We are paying for each other’s, but I don’t think I would ever be comfortable with anyone else paying for my ring. My band is very simple, because I do not want it to take away from the beauty of my engagement ring, but I totally understand that some people want more “bling” for their band. Considering many that I have seen run up to $5000…I think $420 is ok…but if you Fiance is going toward something less expensive, you might want to ask him what he thinks. Maybe the family has a tradition about choosing inexpensive rings, too! 😉

Ooooh that is a GREAT price for such a beautiful band! For platinum with an intricate design like that, I think it’s a steal.

Ours were $1700 together (custom, platinum/18k gold). So, that’s actually crazy cheap.

thank you guys. i’m just going to say it’s the one i want and try not to show how guilty i feel for getting an awesome band for nothing. if there is a problem, and i doubt there will be, i hope he will just tell me. =)

i think we’re planning to spend about $1,000 on our combined rings, so it sounds fine. I think my ring will actually be cheaper than his, because he’s pretty set on platinum and I want 18K white gold.

I just wrote the manufacturer and they say it is available for $100 less in white gold! (I wanted white gold in the first place!)
YES YES YES!!! =)
Just had to share my joy.
