Ladies-There are GOBS of reasons why i didn’t want my sweetheart to spend alot on a ring. So here goes– (don’t take anything personal just my experience/views)

My vintage Engagement Ring was $350.00! I picked it and my FH (hoping that stands for future husband-lol) was hesitant at first since he makes six figures, has no debt, owns a home and can afford to pay more. I insisted i didn’t want him to spend more than a few hundred since:

Reason #1–A piece of metal and some stones could never even come close to defining the value of our relationship.

Reason #2–I had “been there done that” with the ex-husband. My first e-ring from the ex was $15K. Not my idea to spend that much and hardly ever wore it for fear of losing it. It was eventually stolen by a mover and on top of the pain of that– insurance never gave us full appraisal value.

Reason #3–I am the type of person that doesn’t like alot of flash.

Reason #4– I knew that resale value on diamonds was horrific. Over the years I had friends try to sell their e-rings for appraisal value when they hit financial problems or divorced and were shocked to find out how little was offered for their E-rings.

Reason #5–For ethical reasons I preferred either recycled diamonds, white sapphire or white topaz to flank the main gemstone I liked best- blue sapphire.

After searching for a month and looking at alot of rings, i saw this pre-owned beauty and was hooked! Cushion cut sapphire with diamonds surrounding and on the double 14k yellow gold shank. He knows I Looove Sapphires, Rubies, Garnets, Tanzanite and Emeralds….moreso than diamonds.

I have no intentions of having it appraised since appraisals don’t mean much to me and i really don’t care if the white “stones” are diamonds or another gemstone.

It’s beautiful and it’s what the ring symbolizes that matters-his love and committment to spend the rest of his life with me.

He paid around 16-17,000. We had it appraised by an independent appraiser and the appraisial was around 27,000. I’m at work, but I’ll try to post a picture when I get home. Its a 3 stone ring (all emerald cut diamonds), about 3 ctw.

My e-ring had the price tag of £1,195 for a platinum 0.17ct brilliant cut diamond solitaire.. which I have just done a quick currency converter which is $1890 ish.

I think this was about 2/3rd of his monthly salary but when living together, 3 months salary just isn’t feasible (and I didn’t want an overly expensive ring, I would feel too guilty!)

I love this thread (bookmarking it immediately)! Seriously! It’s lovely seeing everyone’s beautiful rings and hearing about the size or the carat weight and sometimes the quality of the stone. But at the end of the day, it would be nice to know what it costs. ๐Ÿ™‚ I scan these threads and always wonder “could we afford something like that?” But I never know how to ask, or if it’s even polite to (I’m assuming it’s not). This is an incredibly helpful thread! Hope to see more posts.

    Gorgeous rings ladies!

My center stone was a family stone so mine was $800 for the setting (.3 ct setting). But with the center stone the ring appraised for 3K (.9 tcw)

I have not had my rings appraised but want to pretty soon. P.S How much does that cost? I heard 35 dollars once?

Anyways, my rings are around $500.

My ring has not been appraised (I’ve only had it a few days), but he paid just under $1000 for it. It’s all moissanite and 14k white gold.

    And here she is ๐Ÿ™‚

FH says he paid between 9 and 10K.  Our jeweler is a close family friend, so we got a decent deal.  He appraised it for $11,900 because he knew he could replace it for less than that and he said our homeowners insurance wouldn’t be as high.  I have a 1.21c round F color, VS2.  Setting is 1.12c in platinum.

I have no idea, and that’s the way I like it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I know it was on the smaller end of the poll though, since he is a student, and that’s ok with me. ๐Ÿ™‚
