be prepared to be shocked. this setting was a whopping $890, the center stone my FH got is a 1ct equivalent moissanite (6mm) for $295 from moissaniteco.com. so, total of $1185. I LOVE IT. (the stone in the photo is a 1.02ct. diamond)

without getting in to figures, my FH has a very large sum of $ that he inherited from his family. we are very well off and extremely fortunate. but, i have moral issues with diamonds, as well as a moral aversion to how artificially inflated the price of diamonds is, so i made it absolutely clear i did not NOT want a diamond. plus, the idea of wearing something so small and yet so expensive makes me nervous! haha. in the end, I am getting a fantastic, big, conflict-free ring for under $1500 😀 moissanite is the way to go, ladies!!!

I just saw that people claimed to have rings that cost more than my car! I think they just bought a ring that would have taken up my wedding budget in one gulp! $15,000?!?!? I am sure it is a gorgeous ring but wow! I wish I had that kind of money!

Nada!  DH had a family e-ring w/wedding band.  He had it reset from yellow gold to platinum and, with the wedding band thrown in for scrap, I don’t think he paid anything extra out of pocket.

I don’t know how much Fiance payed, he doesn’t want me to know so I’ll never find out. He hand picked out the gem and setting, so the gem isn’t GIA certified, but since I like to know those details I’m thinking about sending it in to get it certified (and get the “DIN” number on it).

Mine was $800 for the e-ring band & wedding band.   BUT we already had the center diamond, which is 1/3 carat and was his mother’s diamond before the upgrade.  I guess 1/3 carat diamond is like $1k, so my ring would be around $2k if we had to buy the diamond. The Fiance is in grad school, and I didn’t want him digging into his savings too much, plus I don’t really care about a big expensive ring.

This is a thread that ask’s a specific question — How much was your engagement ring?

So, why don’t we just answer the question – chit chat about the specifics if we choose too

and stay off the drama and flaming? 🙂 I think we’re allowed to ask questions if we choose

    too?

@MrsMoksha: so is your FI’s family paying a dowry?!

Anyway, I *think* my ring was around 5,000 (he wont tell), but he bought it from a very good friend who is a jeweler and got it at cost (just like @ejs4y8)

I know appraisals are skewed, but my ring is actually worth between 10-12k so we got a “good deal”, if you can say that about 6,000 dollar diamond rings.

I definitely do not think this post is tacky…I just think some people need to not open threads they know are going to piss them off.

I think that it is CRAZY RIDICULOUS that people are having a melt down over someone asking how much your ring cost!?! Part of the cost and things depends on your location….

My ring cost Fiance $8,000 – It’s 3ct total weight…. $8000 is a CRAZY amount of money for a ring around where I live…. there are very few people with rings over probably $2-3k  except for lawyers wives, doctors wives, ect….. HOWEVER my Fiance isnt from here; moved here about a year ago and from where he is from EVERYONE has a ring well over $5k…. I have the largest carat weight of rings in our circle of friends back home but I have a  few friends there that their rings cost clost to $15k. Its the same as home prices and car prices..

NO ONE would be all pissy about asking us to show a pic of your home & how much you paid for it if people were looking into houses and just liked homes? Rings should be on the same level as EVERYTHING else in our weddings…. I LOVE my ring and think that it was Fiance money to do with as he pleased- I was engaged before and had a $300 – .25carat solitare and LOVED it when I had it too….. Its not about the cost of the ring; its a symbol of their love and devotion… Some just live in more expensive areas, have a larger budget, or have more expensive taste! Noone is on here saying “OMG you spend $5000 on a wedding dress… who ever paid for it must really love you?”  WHOEVER buys you something like that loves you- the price SOLEY depends on a budget based on financial standing, decisions, bills, and MANY other factors! If you dont have anything nice to say… DONT SAY IT!

Who determines what is tacky to say a price or size about? Let me see if I have got it right by what I have observed:

TACKY- talking about price or sizes of rings

NOT TACKY- Talking about price, sizes, designers, etc of dresses, venues, food, shoes, homes, cars, etc????????? Ive seen a HELLUVA lot of people on here buying $500+ Louboutins and NOONE is calling them Tacky?!?!

my guy went to walmart….its where i wanted him to go in the first place.  he spent $125.00 on a 5 diamond silver band thats  1/5 of a ctw thats .20 ctw. its not the ring i wanted but its the one he picked for me and i wouldnt have it any other way! i wasent going for expensive or big…i wanted small simple and not over 300 cause i know he wouldnt be able to afford something crazy when the time came. when the ring i liked wasent there, he picked one out for me and surprised me without telling me he went and bought a ring…and thats what means most to me! not price or size…but that i mean enough for him to think of me and surprise me with what he could.
