as someone with a “smaller” ring I love seeing all the bling and knowing what people spent. maybe because I’m nosey? lol mine is .4 karats and in a twisty band and I love it. it is a small stone and it is in a 6 prong setting so that rock is not going ANYWHERE (haha he knows me well)

I don’t have a pic but here is my wedding ring ($600) his is a solid band with the same pattern engraved on it.

I can understand why this post may come across tacky, but like other posters have said its not like we all are friends off the Bee.  It is helpful to others who are not engaged to help them decide what they want and can afford.  I think its very similar to any other post telling people how much certain things in your wedding costs (I.E. wedding, dress, food, venue)..I am not really sure what the difference between those threads and this one is…but hey everyone is entitled to their opinon!

I don’t think this post was supposed to make anyone feel bad..we all have awesome rings no matter the if they cost $5 or $5,000!

Looking at the poll results is pretty cool! It’s really very evenly distributed.

I think its interesting to see how much other girls’ rings are. Mine doesn’t even come close to touching 10K, but I still love it just as much as those girls love those rings. I know my Fiance got a REALLY good deal on it, but I’m not sure of the final price. couple K i think…?

@Snake:  I hear ya.  Lately, this has felt more like Ringbee than Weddingbee. : /

@Scissors:  Yup.  They usually end badly.  *sigh*

@ snake – I think its funny how you are telling these ladies on this post that this is a “tacky” subject matter when less than 3 hours ago you commented on the post about How Much Did Your Wedding Dress Cost and Who’s Paying For It and willingly offered how much your dress cost — seemingly having no issues with that particular post.  Little strange to me!!    If you don’t like a post, then just don’t comment.

To all the other bees  – I’ve really been enjoying this post and am sure it’s helpful to those starting to look for rings and what to expect.   I don’t think there really is an “average” overall – its all dependent on style, personal taste, and financial background – and I think the poll shows that!!

Mine was quite alternative and just cost about $20 for the silver setting.  We polished and mounted a stone we found together that we both thought was very pretty.  Seemed sentimental.  I also sometimes wear my greatgrandmothers ring, which was free since it is inherited and is a bit more sturdy.

I’m surprised by the variety of budgets. I guess I thought most people would be in a certain range (but had no idea what that range was.)

My ring was only 800 dollars because Moissanite so so reasonably priced ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so glad there’s such a gorgeous and durable option for two broke college kids.

I was going to post how much mine cost, but now I’m not going to.  Let’s just say that my ring cost a lot more than I ever thought my fiance would spend on it.  It’s a 1.22 carat Tiffany Lucida rectangle, so that proabably give you some idea of it’s cost.

I don’t think this post is tacky at all.  I think everyone’s ring is gorgeous, and what’s most important is that we all have rings that we love and that suit our own personalities and lifestyles.  I’m kind of offended that people think that this post is just about “showing off” what your ring cost.  I’m certainly not proud that mine cost what it did.  I would never tell any of my friends the carat weight or cost of my ring (and I usually don’t admit that it’s from Tiffany either).  BUT — I see the Bee as a safe place where we can discuss things like cost and carat weight, since it’s all anonymous, and it’s such a supportive community. The comments about “tackiness” just make me sad ๐Ÿ™

I don’t think this post is tacky at all. I find it interesting to see all the variety out there. It’s not a contest, a brag fest, or anything to be embarassed about. I’m happy with how we budgeted our rings, and wouldn’t judge someone for spending more.

I’ll disagree that it always has to do with financial background. Some people choose to spend less when they can afford more and some people spend more when they’re going to put it on their credit card for years. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah….I definately disagree that ring price has much to do with financial stability.  I’ve known couples who go into debt over wedding rings and a lot of people who have plenty in their savings opting for much cheaper or free heirloom options.

I don’t think this post is tacky, it’s interesting to see what people wanted in an engagement ring and what they spent.

@jmuc:  ummm . . . stalk much?  Everyone’s internal *tacky* meter is different, and everyone is equally entitled to express their opinion via post.  The only thing that needs to not be posted is a personal attack.
