We live in Oklahoma and the house we are building is 2884 square feet, 4 beds, 3 baths, 3 car garage…and it was $240,000.

The cost of living in OK is AWESOME 🙂

Ours was a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, 3000 sf home.  Purchased for $280k.

Put a large master suite addition on, so now it’s a 4 bed, 2.5 bath house valued at $400k.

We also live in NJ, whose housing market is crazy.  We’re 15 min from philly.

I live about 40 minutes outside Detroit…for US bees I probably don’t need to say much more than that, but for the record Detroit houses are crazy cheap. Ours wasn’t crazy cheap since it’s not super close to the city, but I think we got a pretty good deal. We paid 133k for our home which was built in 06 and is a cute one-story home with a stone front, open modern layout, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, attached two car garage. It’s about 1400 sq ft, I think.

We bought a new build in an Atlanta suburb (~20-25 minutes from downtown).  The home is 2750 sq. ft. with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 2 car garage, finshed basement, and nice upgrades (granite, hardwoods, tile shower in master, deck etc).

We paid $259,000.

We paid $185,000 for our 3 bed/2 bath in the nort west suburbs of Chicago. It was a foreclosure though and was previously sold for $450,000 just a few years before. We got a steal, to say the least.

In Dallas, I bought a 1600 sq foot 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, 2 living room, two-story Townhouse with a 2-car garage in a transitional (but transioning for the better, thank goodness) neighborhood exactly 2 miles from downtown, 2 miles from uptown, and 1 mile from Deep Ellum (a popular going-out area).  I paid $180,000 for it, before I was married.

In Jersey City, we just bid on a 1200 sq foot 2 bedroom 2 bath condo with a deeded parking space (this is a big deal here) for $635,000.  We were outbid because no less than 11 couples bid on the property, resulting in a huge bidding war.  I think it went for over $655,000.  I wish I could say I was kidding.  =(  Now we’ve upped our possible range to $600,000-$750,000.

I know for sure I could have a McMansion in the suburbs of Dallas for that price.  And here, we can get a 2 bedroom condo with crazy maintenance fees and property taxes, to the tune of another $2,000 a month after paying the mortgage!  *sad face*

I am north of Boston, MA by 30 mins.  We have a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath, Cape, over a half acre of land, 1776 square ft and we bought it for $250,000.  Our house was a one family owner, and the people who sold had lived there since birth, it needs updates, but I love it.

We own:

2000 square foot 4/3 new custom home in Florida for $212,000.

1300 square foot 3/2 house in Dallas/Fort Worth for $127,000.

Not sure what they are appraised at now, probably around the same.  I hate them both, we need more room, but don’t want to spend more until we’re going to be somewhere for more than 4-5 years.
