Another Texas girl here loving the low housing costs!

2000 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 2 bath, good sized lot with in-ground pool. Good neighborhood in a good school district. I can’t remember the exact purchase price, but was somewhere around $140,000-$150,000 in 2004 when I purchased it.

It’s funny because even around Texas the prices can vary (still low cost compared to the rest of the country though). My parents’ house is quite a bit smaller than mine, is not all  brick like mine, smaller lot, and much older. Yet it’s worth a substantial amount more. They live in Austin. I live in the Dallas suburbs.

We paid $113,500 for a Cleveland, OH  area home. 3 beds, 1 full bath, 1 half in the basement. 1400 sq feet. There are many homes available for cheaper than that around here, but they often need a lot of work. Even ours needs a bit of sprucing up.

$459,900 for a fully detached 4 bed, 2.5 bath at 3,386 ft above ground. It has another 1,500 ft of unfinished basement that we plan on finishing in the next 10 years. We live 15 minutes from the nearest DC metro stop, 20 minutes from the DC/MD line (we live on the Maryland side).

I knew I shouldn’t have looked, but this post just re affirms how expensive (ahem overpriced) Australia is, we paid $330,000 (now worth around $390,000) for a very small 3 bedroom house on a 300m2 (3200sq feet) (this is the size of the block not the size of the house) in an average suburb but close to the city…..

$353,000 for a 1500 square foot 3bed 3bath detached home with double attached garage built in 2006. It’s in a suburb on the outskirts of our city (Calgary). We got a great deal and it was one of the lowest priced detached homes of comparable stats in the whole quadrant. My sisters house a suburb over is 2100 square feet and was $440,000.

Definitely a regional thing, housing is very expensive in Canada and Calgary is considered to be one of the lower priced areas which seems insane to me seeing how inxpensive homes in other countires are!

$465,000 – it’s a 2 bed, one bath APARTMENT. I’m in Manhattan. It’s lovely, but I think when we finally leave the city I’m going to have sticker shock at what kind of a house we can get for that price.

As shocking as that is, the mortgage on it is cheaper than what it would be to rent a comperable place here, so owning has made a lot of sense to us.

Ours is a 2b/2ba condo, about 1100 square feet and 2 garage parking spaces (amazing, though we only have one car haha) just over the DC line in Bethesda, MD, across the street from the Bethesda metro. $530k I’m a city girl so that was as far as I could go into the burbs!

I purchased my home for 170k in Oregon when I was 23. When my SO and I get married we can combine our incomes and purchase something for way more and rent mine out for extra income.

I live in a very small rural town in Illinois (approximately 800 people).  I paid $50,000 for my house in 2007.  It was built in 1900, so it is very old.  It is a four bedroom, one bath home with a 2 1/2 car garage (detached), deck and privacy fence.  I have totally remodeled the kitchen, put in new carpet in the living room and master bedroom as well as a few other minor things.  I had it reappraised two years ago and it was appraised at 69,000.  Hoping to sell it in another year and move to the country, closer to both my husband and mine’s work.  Right now, he drives 50 minutes one way to work and I drive 20 minutes or so one way.
