If iui doesn’t work,  I will be getting ivf. With tricare, all I have to pay is lab and medicine fees.  It’ll be around 3, 4k tops.

Intra uterine insemination.  They get you to ovulate,  then they place the semen inside your cervix via catheter

Costs of IVF vary somewhat depending on what clinic you are at.  Some also have “package deals” of varying sorts.

My insurance didn’t cover any of the costs, so for me it was about $10,500 for one cycle, plus about an extra $500-800 for meds, plus an extra $300 to freeze any leftover embryos.  So…it’s expensive!

@mrsedwardslpn:  Also, saw your question about IUI.  Yes, it’s your husband’s semen that they would use if your husband has sperm.  They can also do it with donor sperm if you don’t have / can’t use your husband’s sperm for whatever reason.

It sounds like you’re still pretty early on in the process so hopefully you won’t need either IVF or IUI!

We are lucky that our insurance covers 90% of fertility treatments including 1 or 2 rounds of IVF. I’m not sure of the exact cost at our clinic but a Girlfriend of mine is PG w/twins from IVF (same clinic) and she said hers was $10k.

I’ve known 2 other people that did IVF (years ago) twice and each time it cost them $20k. One couple it worked BOTH times, the other it didn’t work at all but she did get PG naturally a month or so after her IVF…so they have 2 children now.

If our insurance didn’t cover it and it was costing $20k, I think I’d skip IVF and go straight to adoption.

We are paying for 2 rounds up front (many times the 1st time doesnt work) at a reduced cost. I think one round is $11,000, 2 rounds is $17,500 (if you pay up front, so we’ll lose money if we get PG first round) But i just lost my job so the doc is giving us a break at $15,000. But it doesnt include drugs which for me will be $4,500 for one round.

But there are many things they can do before you get to IVF. There is clomid (to make more eggs and help you ovulate) and other stronger meds. Then you have timed intercourse (meaning BD when the timing is right). Then you move onto the IUI (Turkey baster). So more meds (which are hundreds of dollars, not the Thounsands like IVF).

If you are younger, most clinics have lots of programs for you.

Good Luck!

@mrsedwardslpn:  I’m 42 and have been ttc for 2 years. I have tried clomid and other drugs and 3 IUI’s. How long have you been trying? Do you have a conditon that would make it difficult like endo or PCOS? Have you read “Taking Charge of your Fertility” or started charting your cycle?

Since you are young, there is a very good chance that lower cost options will work for you.
