I’ve been hunting for a secular officiant (in the Chicago area) and I’ve been getting quotes from $200-$800. Originally we wanted a friend to officate, get them ordained online, so the only cost would be the $20 to get a certificate that shows their ordained. But trying to find a friend who is right for the job is proving difficult, so we might hire.

My mom married us – so, free! She paid $50 to the state of CA to be a licensed officiant for a day, technically, but she gifted us the fee.

$125 and so far she seems awesome! She gave us some great suggestions for our venue and sent me an email with around 6 different ceremony options, or has given us the option to write our own.
She is a psychiatrist who specializes in marriage counselling and is also a commissioner on the side.
ETA: This includes personalized ceremony (or just the standard civil one), one meeting in person beforehand or a 1 hour phone call, and unlimited emails.

Ours is a guy FH used to work with. He’s doing it free but FH doesnt even know what religion the man is. All I know is his name is Richard and he’s a coon ass (if you’re not familiar with that term it means he’s a cajun with a thick accent most likely… think Swamp People lol). FH’s mom made a comment the other day of “are people going to be able to understand Richard?” So I’m not really sure what he’s gotten us into but it’s free! lol

$300 and she’s fantastic! $300-$400 seemed normal in my searches around Pittsburgh.

I think 650, and worth every penny.
He had me in tears (happy tears, just imagining our ceremony) at our first meeting and we just knew (I hate when people say that, but its actually true!) His personality and sense of humor were a perfect match for us and no one could believe we just happened across him on the internet! He graduated seminary but fell in love and married a girl on her way to becoming a nun before taking his vows. Everyone thought he had known us for years.

Our pastor is marrying us and it’s standard that we give whatever we feel led to give. It doesn’t go to him, but to the church. I wish we could afford to give more, but we are giving $100. He has done so much for us and is just amazing. I know if we try to give HIM money though he won’t take it.

our pastor is an extremely good friend of my family and I. I asked him a couple of times how much he wanted and wouldn’t respond so we’ve given him $200. It’s how much getting a random officiant would have been for us (we looked into it)
He hasn’t mentioned it at all and I’m not sure what to think. :/
