cake inspiration is compiled from a few cake pics that I’ve seen on the WB so if the bee cake owner sees my collage please don’t be upset because most of us have been ispired, in one way or another, by what someone else has. I’ve seen some older threads on this subject, but the quotes I’ve been getting are 2 to 3’x as much. We are getting married in the state of Georgia. I’ve gotten three quotes on the pic collage of what I want for the wedding C
ake and the groom’s cake. The one vender that Fiance and I are considering will do a 3-tier 6″, 9″, 12″ wedding cake and a 10″ groom’s cake/delv/setup for a little less than $1,200.00. Here’s the collage of what I want because it mimics my wedding dress. The entire cake will be ivory with a burgundy bow, the beautiful bling will be replaced with champagne pearls and the top layer will consist of a champagne/burgundy rose bouquet with burgundy strands of ribbon flowing down it. The groom’s Miami Heat cake will also have his fav players number on it. Bees, will you please share with me what state your wedding is in, how much you spent/spending and the size of your tiers. Pics would be awesome, too.

SoNLoveWithHim: Hey there, I am actually a personal chef who makes wedding cakes on the side. I do not run a professional bakery, but I make really yummy and really pretty cakes. I made the cake in my photo.
Anyway, I think you are definitely looking at a high end bakery that charges so much too balance out more expensive cakes. You can definitely find a bakery that would make those cakes for less. I live in Austin, Texas, and there are bakeries here that would charge that much. Most would start at $400 for a buttercream cake that would feed 100, and you can guess double that for fondant and gum paste flowers. I think the price they quoted you is not far off, and if you are looking to find something much less expensive you will have to adjust your expectations. Gum paste flowers are EXPENSIVE and so is fondant. The custom Miami logo will take a lot of work. That’s just my two cents from someone who knows the insides of the business a bit. Good luck!

SoNLoveWithHim: $500 – 3 tiers, 6,9,12 inches. Bottom is white quilting with silver beads (oval quilting, I have no idea why. FI thought it was nicer than the diamonds.) Second is black damask (a theme throughout the paper items in the wedding), the top tier is just white fondant. There will be a rhinestone band around the bottom of each tier and a few dark red roses on the top with our cake topper (it’s black acrylic).
The cake flavours are still up in the air, we’re choosing them in September. But I’ve had samples already and its all delicious.
*Edit: I’m in Toronto, Canada. And Groom cakes just aren’t the norm here, so we aren’t getting one. We are getting a 2nd cake from our patisserie. She’s doing a full Thomas the Tank Engine (cut out, not a flat cake) for the day after our wedding. Our Ring Bearer turns 3 the next day. That cake is nearly $200 alone!

edepp2010: Thank you so much for your input. You’re right about the fondant. I was told by the baker that the fondant is one of the things that makes this cake expensive.
