I’m still trying to decide on a bridesmaid dress for my wedding. The dresses in the running range from $140-$260 dollars. I thought it might help to create a poll and figure out what the “average” cost is of a bridesmaids dress. Thanks!

Mine were right in between two of your options, $150 🙂

My bridesmaid dresses were $160.

princessandthepear: My deciding factor was asking what my bridesmaids what they could afford. Although it’s nice to know where you fall on the scale, it really doesn’t matter what the average is, if your BM’s can’t afford it.
Have you asked your BM’s?

julies1949: I have seven bridesmaids. I’m not planning on asking seven people for their budget. However, everyone has been on an email chain talking about dresses, which is where I got the price range from. I’m pretty much letting them choose the dress, as long as it’s grey. One girl did send options from JJ’s House that were in the $90 price range, but I’m not comfortable ordering dresses from China that can’t be returned or tried on in store. Here are some of the options if anyone is interested!

My dresses are $142 on sale, $175 regularly priced. I initially chose short dresses to keep the cost lower, but my bridesmaids all requested long dresses, so I went with the more expensive long dress.

I would advise you to reconsider asking for a budget from each girl. This is really a basic thing you need to do. The one girl may not be able to afford the other dresses and is too embarassed to say something in the email chain which is why she’s subtly sending you cheaper ones. Don’t single her out but for sure ask each girl to let you know what works for them.

princessandthepear: I also would encourage you to be a bit more thoughtful and check in with each girl about their budget, unless you meant that each girl can wear the grey dress of her own choosing. In that case it really doesn’t matter if one of them wants to order from China, or anyhere else.
If instead, you want them all to purchase the same dress, budget nees to be clarified at the outset.

I let them choose any long black dress. I don’t know what they all paid but I know one was $30 and one was $200 so quite the range. I’d recommend talking to your friends about the budget and then picking a dress that works for all your girls.

Ask each girl her budget separately and then go with the lowest. You wouldn’t want to put one of your dearest friends in a tough spot financially for a dress they will only wear once.
As for your question – My ladies are wearing dresses they already own so they cost $0.

Mine are $95 plus tax and $35 shipping divided 5 ways. I basically chose them due to price. They’re not my favorite dresses, basic strapless chiffon long Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses but not charging a ridiculous price for something they will wear once was more important to me.

$85. Ordered during a 20% off sale from David’s Bridal

Mine were $30 each. That’s how much I, myself, would be comfortable paying for a dress that I only plan on wearing once.

Another Bee strongly suggesting you ask your BMs at what price(s) they are comfortable and go with the lowest number (or be willing to subsidize the dresses to that level.) It’s basic common courtesy and really doesn’t require that much effort on your part.
