Oh, I was confused. I thought you meant candy bar as in, a snickers or a milky way. But you mean a candy bar like, serve yourself candy in a bar format buffet style.

Wow.. that’s a tough’un. I’d probably look at wholesalers online, you’d probably get a better deal.

Oh, I’m bookmarking this for later, too.

I’ve been considering a candy bar instead of traditional wedding favors, but we don’t have the jars or scoops for it or anything.

We did one for Future Sister-In-Law wedding.  It is MUCH more expensive than you would think. Especially if your going to Walmart or somewhere like that.

Even though you are doing a lighter buffet, you still need enough for it to make an impact and not look…cheap….

Future Sister-In-Law easily spent $300 or more just on candy…but it was beautfiul.  We bought most candy at bulk barn, which is in Canada.  Deffinately go wholesale.

Id say small cello bags are the cheapest.

For our wedding, we needed enough candy for 100 people. We definitely bought extra. We spent $140 for all of it from Oh Nuts online. We used paper bags for the candy, and I stamped each one with a pretty stamp. I used the cheaper candy for the biggest containers. We also splurged on two flavors of rock candy and everyone loved those. We tried to do a mix of different things.. we got rock candy, caramels, chocolate covered pretzels, yogurt covered pretzels, butterscotch, two flavors of saltwater taffy, and I know I’m forgetting some. The rock candy & the pretzels were the favorites and they went fast.

@RunnerBride13:  That’s what I had the most trouble with too! It’s confusing because the candy all has different weights.. so 1lb of pretzels takes up more room than 1lb of a heavy small candy. The website I ordered from (Oh Nuts) lists how many pieces of candy is in each bag so you can try to picture it that way. I also ordered it early enough so I could order more if it didn’t look like enough for the containers. I just left the bags sealed. It’s so much easier to picture how much candy it is when you’re holding it in your hand!

We ordered this taffy, (ordered two colors), and we got 6lbs total, with about 70 pieces per pound. That filled a container 12in tall & 10 in across with some extra for refilling. I tried to find my order in my e-mail, but I must have deleted it… but I think we ordered about 3-6lbs of each type of candy we got, depending on the container we were planning on putting each one in. Hope that helped a little 🙂

My stepsister spent over $300 for 300 people and only I think the first 75 people wound up with bags to bring home. I don’t know if people at her reception were especially greedy, but at the very least, fill up your bag, figure out the cost of it, and then multiply by XXX. You’ll be surprised at the cost.

@red_pepper_gal:  This is a really good point!

That happened at a wedding my parents went to, so I purposely made the bags not too big, so people couldn’t take wayyy more than they were supposed to. All of our guests got to go through & get candy. Although I did notice that everyone didn’t get a rock candy because some people took a few.

I planned to do a candybar too. Our bags were 5×7 but do you think that’s to big?
