We paid $500 for the invitation suite (invite, map, rsvp card, and escort card) design. It ended up being worth every penny. She even scanned in my fiances calligraphy. We are a really unique couple and we hated the stuff we saw at the stationary stores.

This may be rather late to add on.  Hopefully my comment might help future readers.  I am an artist and I also offer custom work. Pricing is delicate.  I have a stock design fee and a custom design fee.  When I look at how many hours it takes me to do a custom invitation and then factor in my hourly rate, a custom design could cost $200-500 at a $25/hr rate. It takes at least five to eight hours for one complete design. Factor in the tweaks and edits from a customer and it can take up to 24 hours for all the changes and revisions. That’s why I would suggest agreeing to a pre-defined number of revisions up front (two major changes max unless you want to end up spending weeks per client). Even I have to ask myself how much am I willing to accept for my skill and designs? How do you put a price on creativity and skill? I guess by looking around and comparing your work to others. And then ultimitately finding out what people are willing to pay.  Invitations set the stage, so my advice to brides is to budget accordingly.

Depends on the design work. Lots of artists make a design then offer to customize it and they are basically selling the designed template and the people print it themselves. He could add on charges for other customization work.

Most pre-made templates on etsy I wouldn’t pay over $30 unless the design suite was amazing.

For a hand drawn or watercolored customization I would probably pay $150-175.

There is a lot of competition, creative market, etsy, etc all over downloadable templates.

For my taste I just did my own, because I frankly refuse to pay for something I can do myself and explaining what is in my brain to anyone else is just too draining lol.
