I was just curious how often you drink alcohol?
How often, how much, and what do you drink?
My FI’s best man is always giving me a hard time….. And talking in FIs ear about my “habits”
I am 23 years old, so naturally my Fiance (25) and I go out on the weekends to bars and such with our friends. His best man is 28 and had a baby at 22.
Anytime I drink at all even wine with dinner he always has an under handed comment about my drinking. Deep down I’m sure it’s that when he was my age he was home with a baby, being a single dad… No time for friends or social drinking. So maybe it’s jealousy? But it still makes me uncomfortable and I feel like I am being judged.
So I guess I am just reaching out to you all too see what your “habits” are. Fiance and I usually drink 1-2 beer/wine with dinner. And socially drink with friends on weekends. Is this excessive? Or am I just being sensitive to bm’s comments?!
thanks for any input 🙂

In an average week I might drink a single glass of wine. That said, I know couples who drink about as much as you and your fiance and it doesn’t seem excessive in any way. Sounds like the best man is being judgemental for no reason.

I usually only drink every couple of weeks. For me though it’s more about not wanting to consume extra calories over not wanting to drink.
My husband has 1-2 beers every night after work and I see no problem with it. I think what you are doing is fine- just ignore him.

Most weeks I don’t drink. When I do I have a cider or a beer once or twice a week at most. Occasionally I have a mixed drink.
A lot for some people is not a lot for others. He needs to butt out. If you had a problem it’s not likely that he would be the only one to notice.

I have probably 3-5 glasses of wine a week. A glass after work here, dinner out there. That sort of thing. Maybe once or twice a month I’ll go out for happy hour with friends, and then I’ll have 2 or 3 cocktails (usually Manhattans or gin and tonics.) But I also go to the gym 4 days a week, so the extra calories don’t both me too much – and red wine is excellent for your cardiac health!
Your habits sound perfectly healthy. Your friend needs to stop being judgmental (or envious?)

I used to drink more but I’ve cut back a bit so before maybe a weekend or two a month I’d have a few shots or so but now I rarely drink Maybe once every few months?

I had to pretty much give up drinking when I was losing weight and now I’ve lost my tolerance and get really bad hangovers so barely at all anymore. At most these days I’ll have a wine on a dinner out/at a friends house once a month or so. Darling Husband drinks a bit more, primarily only on weekends, we aren’t really at home drinkers. I seen nothing wrong with what you do though, many people enjoy a glass of wine a night with dinner. The only problem comes when you can’t do without that glass of wine (which I’m sure you can!).

britty: If we go our for dinner I will usually get a mixed drink. Like if it’s dark outside. I just don’t ever drink if it’s daytime lol. So that’s about once a month. But occasionally I will see a yummy new be to try. In the past month I have tried Redds apple ale, Redd strawberry ale and bud lite razberita. So it varies. 25 times a year/2x a month. Girl, idk lol
I don’t think you’re drinking a lot. It would be a lot for me,but I’ve never been a drinker or partier. I mean if you’re getting drunk every night would be a problem. I guess as long as you’re not doing that.
Edit: I’m 27 btw

I don’t drink at all, but many of my friends will have a beer or glass or wine with a meal daily.

The man and I usually have either a cocktail together after work or beer/wine with dinner (sometimes both). Our doc is fine with it!

britty: Some people are just hardasses about it. I’d ignore it unless it’s affecting your life. I always say work first, play later. So, IMO if you’re getting your shit done, it’s okay to knock back a few if that’s what you enjoy. If it starts interfereing with other aspects of your life, that’s when it’s time to think about changing habits. Comes down to being responsible, whatever your choice.
To answer your questions: I will drink mostly Friday-Sunday (my weekend) and sometimes during the week – though I’m cutting down due to calories and…well I want to preserve my liver too! Weekends I drink whatever I want, usually I’ll make it through a bottle and a half of wine on a Friday if you’re asking about amounts…which does continue into Saturday and Sunday…so, 4-5 bottles of wine a weekend? I guess that’s a lot for some but I find no issue with it. To each their own.

31, my husband and I only drink socially or eating out, so once a month. When I was your age I drank more because I went out more. Although I still didn’t buy alcohol for at home consumption, but that had more to do wjtwith not knowing alot about wines.

I drink wine when we go out to eat (not that often), liquor at home on the weekends or at bars, occasionally a glass of wine during the week. It used to be way more excessive in college, I’m still in my early twenties and Fiance is sliding in the late 20’s so I don’t think it’s a big deal.
Unless you’re a completely different person or not going to work or something I don’t know why someone would say something.

Right now I am TTC so I don’t drink too much especially during TWW but before we were TTC and before ovulation I will have maybe 2-3 pints of beer once a week, usually on a Friday or Saturday night, sometimes I will drink both Fri and Sat i.e if we are out with friends or something.
