Its like an oil change it should be done every so often. I work for a custom jeweller and we usually recommend to get them polished/cleaned/setting checked and rhodium at least once a year

MsGinkgo:  You’re lucky 🙂 I redip some of mine every 3-6 months! But actually, it just depends. I have one white gold ring that never seems to need replating, one that needs it several weeks later, and the others every 6 months or so! And this is wearing all three at the same time, all the time, so they all get about the same wear.

Lol I just talked about this with my bff yesterday! I have noticed my band is starting to yellow a bit. It’s been over a year since I last did it right before the wedding, so I’d say it’s about time. I’ve read 1-2 times a year depending on your wear.

MsGinkgo:  Lucky again! 🙂 I had mine polished for the same reasons when I first got my band and it ended up looking like butter because the polishing rubbed off most of the rhodium! I was so mad at the jeweler for having to pay to make it look worse! LOL

MsGinkgo:  Yes, it was a mom & pop and they charged to stay in business. Plus, my band was from a local jeweler which would have done it for free but I have since moved. But now, I have several great jewelers I go to and they give me great discounts on redipping AND I never have to part with them for more than 20 mins!

Edited to clarify!

And by polish, they used a machine, not just a polishing cloth after they cleaned it.

I have worn my engagement ring for 4 years now and wedding ring for almost 3 and have not had either redipped. I was just thinking about this the other day though and think I should soon? Is it really just to keep it looking new? It doesn’t look yellow or anything.

It honestly depends on your body chemistry. I have a white gold ring that I wore daily for 2 years and still looks perfect. Other people need to have theirs redipped every few months.

I’ve had mine for 9 months and it’s yellowed on the palm side. My mother has hers done twice a year. Her jeweler doesn’t charge the people who bought from them.

I actually love the colour of my rings unplated.

I dipped my ering right before our engagement photos, and I’ll dip it again before the wedding so that they match in pictures. Then I may once a year but probably not

I love the color of unplated gold,  so no more rodium,  only polishing

I’ve been wearing mine 24/7 for almost a year and the rhodium plating hasn’t worn off at all (I compared the colour to brand-new white gold jewelry). It’s a bit scratched through so I’m going to get it polished being the wedding, and have them check the prongs.
