alessia :  super interesting thread! could you do a poll? It’d be interesting to see where in the world/country people are more likely to see colored gems!

I have a grey diamond, and all my close friends have colored gems: tanzanite, dark blue sapphire, aqamarine, and pink sapphire! Actually, thinking about it now, the only people I know who have colorless stones are co-workers or acquaintances.

I have only seen one which was a morganite halo. Other than that just white sparkly stones in general. I do have a friend who is not engaged as of yet but wants an emerald for her ering!

chocochai :  I’m from Orange County, in Southern California. The majority of people I see out and about (grocery store, post office, etc) have colorless stones, but I do see many (everyday, if it’s a day I’m paying attention) colored gems as well.

American girl here, Richmond Va,  and I see a lot of colored stone e-rings, maybe 40/60 split? Smaller diamond rings are more common, all styles, halo seems to be the most common, colored or clear. 2 of my close friends have colored: oval aquamarine halo and a sapphire solitaire. I have a blue diamond, which I love!

alessia :  This is to OP

I have a white sapphire ring with blue saphire side stones.  I know one frined who has a blue sapphire center ering and I have another frined who has a beutiful aquamarine ering. I met a lady the other day with a rube engagement ring and I fell in love with it! It was stunning! Otherwise, everyone I know has a clear/white stone. I’m the only person I know with colored side stones (I see it a lot on line, but not much in person).

I always wante a sapphire ring (it’s my birthstone). I had a hard time choosing what color – I love yellow sapphires, I love pale pink and peach sappires, I love light ice blue sapphires. It was an ordeal! Fianlly Darling Husband suggested I go with a white sapphire, and when I saw this ring I knew it was meant just for me.

in grad school I knew 5 ladies with e-rings (most married women I knew only wore a band): 2 sapphires, 1 turquoise, and 2 diamonds (both diamonds were either profs or profs’ wives, fwiw..).

since leaving, I haven’t seen any non-clear (presumably diamond) e-rings on friends/aquaintances.  Though I see the specturm on design… including a woman I work with who wears this huge stack (9-12 rings I think!) of rings that are all types of metal/gold and each has a tiny little diamond.  I thought that was cool.

Other than mine, I’ve never seen a coloured stone e-ring in real life. I have a pink sapphire and rose gold halo

In the UK, quite often on women who have been married for a while. On younger women, not so much anymore!

I’ve only seen chocolate diamonds & a single blue diamond [an old coworker of mine had one in a promise ring]

I have a pink diamond engagement ring. Pink is my color and all my stuff is pink, so he knew to do that. 🙂

I have sapphires in my engagement ring, I just think it’s unique and different. It’s also my birthstone =)
