The only person I know who has non-diamond engagment ring is my Mother-In-Law. Hers is saphire.

elderbee :  I have many rings either from my ex or that were handed down that fit my left hand ring finger only. No one ever asked if any of them were engagement rings. Maybe it’s a local thing.

I have an amethyst e-ring but I don’t know anyone irl who has a colored or diamond e-ring. My oldest sister had a stone less e-ring.

I have a sapphire e-ring and band and love it. I don’t see a ton of them, but when I do I get excited. Most of my friends have diamonds, but there are a few with colored stones: turquoise and emerald. I think it’s totally your preference! When I was looking at rings, I just fell in love with a colored stone and was debating between a tanzinite (bluish-purple) or a black diamond. The jewler DH ended up working with didn’t work with black diamonds and preferred sapphires over tanzinite for their hardness. Go with your gut! Here’s my set:
