How often do you travel?

We each have around 25 vacation days a year plus bank holidays.  My parents still live in the country I grew up in so we do a few long weekends to visit my family and then in a typical year we will usually do one big long haul trip – this summer it is Vietnam, a smaller one which is usually about 5 days at a European beach and then we do a few cheap European citybreaks throughout the year.  We often do a citybreak as a couple around one of our birthdays and then we do about 2 more and this is usually with friends.

We travel a decent amount, usually one overseas trip a year, one tropical trip a year, then multiple long weekend trips within the US throughout the year.

i get 3 weeks vacation per year right now, plus six personal days that I can use for vacation (as opposed to using those as sick days). Last year I ended up taking over a week off unpaid because we just had so much going on. I’ll likely have to do the same thing again soon.

Not enough!

My husband is a PhD student and we just don’t have the time with how busy he is in his program.

We are planning probably 4 days in Moab in October.

A week in Hawaii in May (I think, part of it will be a conference he’s going to and I think it’s in May, might be June)

And we want to do a week in Canada next summer before TTC.

Before we had our baby, we were away about 6 weeks a year.   We got 4 weeks of vacation, but by going on holiday weekends and with flex time we could really stretch those 4 weeks of PTO out.  It was usually two 9-20 day international trips and a handful of domestic trips.

I used to travel more but I try to at least one or two times a year. Usually if I do an international trip and it is long like two weeks I will just travel once but if I do something smaller like a few days for a trip then I will try to do two or three. I try to also go somewhere different for each trip.

Husband and I met while traveling 🙂 Well, I was doing my internship abroad and he was working there. But I think this is very telling about who we are. I love to travel or even stay more time abroad for a project, internships etc.

We were in a long distance relationship for about 2 1/2 years, so when I went to visit him in his country we would always travel around. Now that I live and work here, we weren’t able to go traveling as much as I would like to.

I definitely want to travel to other countries with him and explore more. Before meeting him I was traveling a lot and would love to travel to those countries again so he can get to know those places as well.

I’ve only traveled out of state for weddings and work (research and conferences mainly).

Now that I have a permenant job with vacation time, I would like to schedule more actual vacations, but my SO is more restricted on when he can take time off than I am. We had a trip planned in March to go to Texas that was cancelled following a death in the family. I’d like to reschedule it in the fall. Beyond that I’m not itching to go anywhere specific, but I’d be up to go anywhere if my SO is willing to plan it.

Not enough!

I try to take a week long vacation every year.  And then weekend trips a few times.  FH isn’t a traveler.  He has only been a handful of places over the years.   So working on getting him to track more now that the last of his kids is graduating.

We got married in July 2018 as well!! Congrats!

We travel a LOT both before and since we got married. In 2018 we did

chicago for saint Patrick’s day, 2 weeks in Europe (France, Germany, Amsterdam) Naples Florida for a long weekend, Dallas/ft worth long weekend, Wilmington NC weekend trip, New York long weekend, 7 days in Denver/buena vista Colorado (where we got married) long weekend Greenville SC, 4 days in folly beach/Charleston sc, weekend trip to Washington DC, long weekend oak park Illinois, 5 days Portland Oregon for my birthday, weekend in Birmingham Alabama, 5 days Turks and Caicos for our delayed honeymoon, 6 nights in Seattle/San Juan islands, and back to NYC for Christmas shopping. And I’m sure I’m forgetting some weekend trips here and there and I didn’t list visiting family

in 2019 so far we have been to

Chicago for Valentine’s Day, 5 days in New Orleans, weekend in Wisconsin, 5 days in Cancun/Isla mujeres, 5 days San Diego/Palm Springs CA, back to DC with my sisters for the weekend, 3 days in Cleveland last week and now I’m in Grand Rapids Michigan until Thursday. We are going to savannah Georgia and Tybee island at the end of this month for 4 days and have plans to go back to Denver for our honeymoon in July and then on the Vancouver for 5 nights. Nothing is set in stone for the rest of the year or next year, though. Like you, I am a huge fan of finding great deals on amazing places and usually that happens last minute the way I do things. We have a southwest companion pass (which I highly recommend looking into) so we have been focusing on going places where southwest flies until that runs out at the end of next year. I’m trying to talk my husband into Italy for my birthday this year, though.

Also, What is an asleep overnight job? Hahah sorry that’s going right over my head.

I have 30 days plus 8 bank holidays of annual leave so usually I would travel a lot, say one beach holiday, then two European city breaks and a break in the UK somewhere, but since saving for a house we have cut it down to just one beach holiday a year.

This year we are just going to Turkey in September, last year we went to Greece for a week,  Budapest for three days and Rome for 4 days. The year before we went to Bali for two weeks, Madeira for a week, London for a weekend and Bath (UK) for a weekend. I also went to Japan for three weeks to visit a friend living there.

We travel a fair amount. We both work in higher ed, which has generous leave policies (22 vacation days/year, plus 2 weeks at Christmas and 1 week at spring break, plus all major holidays). We tend to go to his family’s mountain cabin ~3 times a year for 5-7 days at a time, visit family in other states (major cities, so we can tourist it up) ~2 times a year, and try to do 1-2 long weekend getaways per year. Our first international trip is this fall, to Paris. We tend to fall into the rut of going to the cabin (ultimate first world problem), so our goal for 2020 is to do a lot more domestic travel…we’re eyeing Colorado and NYC specifically.

Oh, and due to it being higher ed, we also each tend to have 1-2 conferences per year which are sometimes in cool places.
