SO I have been on the same birth control for about 4 years now….when i first got on it was awesome, cut my flow in like half, shortened it by 2 days, i have always been regular to a fault with my flow, only a few times has it ever been late…ever….but it seems over the last year my flow has started to get progressivly heavier again, same length but the cramps that before BC would make me physically sick from pain, that were better at first are starting to get bad again, it was so good for soo long, but now im wondering if it is not working as well, my last cycle for two days i was going through an extra super tampon, and almost filling one of the super over night pads in about 2 hours….which is what i was like before birth control….i do this for about 3 days….and i want to die those 3 days….the rest are sorta tolerable, but the other 4 arent a picnic either….
I have been on Ortho Lo Tri-Cyclen for right around 4 years….I am also concerned because i have been on BC for about 8 years now….the first 4 were spent trying to find something that worked, 2 BCs later I thought wed hit the jack pot….and we are talking about TTC in roughly 18 months….(about 6 mos after our wedding) and am worried about it affecting fertility….I know as a nurse people think i should know all about this but i specalize in trauma and er nursing so BC not my speciality.

Funny enough, the same thing happaned to me. I was on Ortho Lo Tri-cyclen for about 2 years when my periods started becoming heavier and heavier. The cramps started becoming unbearable. After many dr’s appts, my gyno finally decided to switch my BC. He suggeted the Nuva Ring. I was hesitant at first because the Ortho was a low dose pill and I was afraid I’d have too many side effects with the Ring, but at that point I was so miserable I decided to take a gamble.
Long story short: my doc also gave me the green light to completely and totally skip every single period (I wear a ring for 30 days, then take it out and insert a new one). I haven’t had a period in 2 years and don’t miss it. No spotting, either. Life is great!

I’ve been on the same medication for a long time. I have switched the brand and the way I take it (longer continuous use), but haven’t actually switched the medication.

@kansas_nurse: I was on OTC Lo for about 7 years. I recently switched to the Skyla IUD (Mirena’s little sister) and am SO happy. I haven’t had a period since July (when I had it put in) and I don’t have to remember to take a pill every day. Plus, my mood is better. Definitely recommend checking an IUD out!

I was on the birth control pill for years, and I switched to the Nuva Ring about 6 months ago. I’m switching from the Nuva Ring to the Mirena IUD next week as my sex drive dissapeared on the ring and my FI and I wanted a birth control option which was more long term.

@kansas_nurse: I changed my pill 3 or 4 times, but that was way back when I first got on it. Once I found one that works for me with no troubling side effects, I stuck with it. Mine is a mini-pill and I am very happy with it.

i was on depo for about 2 years and didn’t like it. when i was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst, my doctor switched me to the pill. i was on ortho tri-cyclen for 4 months, then switched to seasonique for 3 months (i didn’t have health coverage at the time, so my doctor was just giving me samples of whatever she had so that i wouldn’t have to pay for them), then went off birth control altogether after i had the cyst removed. that was about 4 years ago. we’ve been practicing nfp since we learned about it last year.

Ugh, last time I was at my OB I asked to switch ny BC and she was all huffy, and said but you’ve switched every year now for about 3-4 years, nothing makes you happy! Well, yes, I haven’t liked any of them, is that a problem???
I tried the ring, I had to take it out for intimacy because it was painful otherwise, and it just got to be too much. I know some can leave it in, but for me it was uncomfortable.
I tried three different pills as well, one each for a year or so, and I am still not happy with what I have. But it’s my body, I can switch it if I want!!
