2 times a year is plenty for me recently.. my hair doesn’t seem to grow past my boobs so I’ve had years I cut it once a year or even once every 2 years.

I go every 2 months, but I have a girlfriend who does my hair in her house for $20. It takes like 20 min, she trims my layers because I have really long thick hair and it just gets too heavy for me if I wait much longer than that. If it were paying regular salon price which is closer to $50-60 I would probably only go twice a year and not be as happy with my hair!

Recently I’ve started trimming my own hair. I don’t use heat or dye it but I’m still prone to breakage so I need a trim like every 8 or 10 weeks. I used to go to the hairdresser for trims but it seemed like they always took off at least 2 or 3 inches and then I’d wait forever to go back because I’d be growing it back out and then the next time they’d take even more because of breakage.

Eventually I’ll go back so they can fix my layers. I do trim my layers but I’m not good enough to do it how I like it.

sadbee1992 :  As long as you keep your hair healthy to prevent breakage, dont cut your hair. This will obviously help it grow as you won’t be cutting off the length.

I hav long hair, and when I need to, I give myslef a trim. It’s at the top of my waist (right under the boobies), and when I trim it, I trim to the halfway mark of my breasts.

I trim my hair every 3-5 months.

In your case that is too soon.  Have you ever heard the saying that the mroe you cut your hair, the quicker it grows?

In many womens’ case that is true. This is because they style and dye their hair often so they get split ends.  If you cut your hair more frequently it cuts those ends before they can split and cause your hair to be shorter than if you cut.

In your case, since youre fairly easy on your hair…I’d wait like 3 months

Most years, I probably go once maybe twice for a haircut. My hair is overall in decent condition, I don’t really heat style it often and I don’t wash it daily. I also haven’t colored it in years.

sadbee1992 :  find a hairdresser that has long hair herself – she’ll understand that you don’t want it too short and will be conservative with the trim. I’ve actually had problems because my hair grows crazy fast and doesn’t get much breakage so hairdressers say “well I only need to take off about 1/2 an inch to clean it up” even when I want them to take off 2-3 inches.

Plenty of hairdressers only cut off what you ask them to so if this one cuts more then go somewhere else.

I’ve also been growing out my hair and I only trim it every 6 months. I also get balyage highlights and they look great even after all that time!
