A little backstory,
I grew up in a different state than my two older female cousins. We visited once a year. In my early teens I moved out and we didn’t keep in touch.
We reconnected last summer at our engagement party. My little cousin, cousin’s daughter is going to be in the wedding. And we all talked about the craziness in our childhood that kept us from communicating.
So Fiance and I are late 20s and my cousins are early 30’s each with 1kid. I send cards for holidays and birthdays but I’m not sure how often to call. They’re busy and we’re not besties or anything.

How about emailing? i would do that, see how fast they respond, once you’re closer you may “evolve” into skype videocalls, when is a good time for everyone

I’d say start with once a month, and if a real relationship develops you’ll probably naturally evolve into skyping or more frequent calls.

We just moved across the country from our friends and family. We try to FaceTime with them on our iPhones a couple times/week.

Do you use Facebook, and are you guys friends? I live far from almost all of my family, and the best way for me to keep in touch with the people I’m close with, and the people I want to be closer with, is just to make sure I keep tabs on their Facebook. Like their photos, leave comments, and make sure you share highlights of your own life. Then the next time you actually get to see them, there’s tons to talk about because you’ve been watching what they’ve been up to.
I used to be pretty anti-Facebook, and I wouldn’t post much on there, but now that I see that it makes it easier to feel connected with my long-distance family and friends, I definitely see its value.

Well to answer your questions about facebook and email…they’re pretty bad with that. Neither has a facebook but their husbands do. So I like their stuff but it’s rarely family related. I taught one of my cousins how to set up email on her phone because she never went online. LOL…but now if I email she’ll respond.
Phone seems to be the only way to connect…they also seem to respond quickly to texts.
