“You can’t control the actions or comments of others, but you can decide to not let it piss you off. Being called a “young bride” isn’t the worst thing that could happen…seriously.”

I made the mistake of including the story about an emotional response that I had to someone calling me “little bride” (not young bride) because this is a wedding centered website. I don’t REALLY care what other people think of me, despite comments like that having an “ouch” factor. What actually bothers me is when the impression that strangers have of me has the potential to impact my entire life, as described below.

I made another comment about age discrimination which another Bee attacked me for. I want to clarify here that I did not mean that someone calling me “little bride” or asking why I was with my bridesmaids instead of doing homework was age discrimination. Yes, that is annoying, but I was referring to legitimate age discrimination in the workforce. I found out through someone who acted as a professional reference for me that one of my employers almost did not hire me because I “seemed too young”, when really I was the same age as everyone else and was 120% qualified for the job. Thank goodness the boss’s logic won out in that situation because that job helped me to get on my feet financially and provided me with so many opportunities. My life probably would have been drastically different if that employer decided not to hire me because of how I old I look.

MrsBonJovi:  I didn’t know how to tag you in my previous post, so I will copy and paste what I wrote to another bee here.

I should have been more clear about how the bachelorette party story was NOT what I meant by age discrimination.

ETA: I didn’t join this thread to compare myself to people who have dealt with violence as a result of discrimination. I didn’t join this thread to “humblebrag”. I didn’t join this thread to complain. I joined this thread to respond to someone’s question: “Who cares [about this thread]?” And my response was that I CARE because I learned something about the importance of wearing heavier makeup as a tool to look older/more professional.

Jenny120:  Well, as far as the time you were “almost discriminated against” (so, not *actually* discriminated against) in the workplace, they said you “seemed too young”…maybe you initially came across as immature? You definitely come off as a bit immature and overly dramatic in your responses in this thread, in my opinion.

Some of y’all are bitches #sorrynotsorry – This post isn’t my cup of tea so I didn’t respond – learn how to keep it moving, why be rude? She is a real person with feelings, so what if she wants to know if she looks young? Is that some kind of forum crime?

Jesus…

I wish wedding bee admins cared about this kind of behaviour. Clothing these threads with rude ass responses would make it a better place IMO

BrideAddict92:  22. I didn’t read your post until after….So I guess I think you look your age. However, I am also a “young” looker, so I automatically guess older.

girlseeksring:  I’ve been discriminated against in the workforce for looking young. I had a potential employer straight up tell me that he/she wouldn’t hire me because he/she didn’t think the customers would take me seriously.

BrideAddict92:  I think your pretty !!! You look around 20, I was always told I look 4-5 yrs younger then what Iam, I suppose it’s a good thing. Don’t even pay attention to half these rude posts … I don’t see any posts that you have ever made that were mean spirited to anyone else so no need to worry. Half the ones who posted must be unhappy with themselves or by seeing how many posts they have commented on their men must not touch them enough.

Just saw that my comment had an error. It’s supposed to say 20, not 80! I feel horrible now. Sorry!
