@MlleFabuleux:   I don’t think anyone here is saying that NO ONE should have their first after a certain age, its just for themselves.

My Aunt had her first child when she was a couple months shy of 40.  I’ve mentioned this previously, but she’s been pushing that I should have kids younger.  She says that she does not have the energy or patience she did even 5 years ago and regrets waiting so long (it took them a couple years to conceive).

I’m 24, but I hope to be done having children before I’m 30.  I’m not so sure if that will happen, as DH is not showing any signs of being ready anytime soon, but we shall see.  At this point, I don’t think I would have children over 40, though.

My dad had other children from his first marriage, but my mom didn’t have me until she was 37, which was particularly old 25 years ago. My dad was 44 when I was born. So, I’m pretty used to old parents. When Fiance and I get married he’s already going to be 37 so unless we go out and get a baby the next day (we’re adopting) we’re prett guaranteed he’s going to be at least pushing 40 before we have our first child.

It’s too risky IMO to have kids after 35… I voted for 40. My mom was 35 when she had me (I’m an only child) and I turned out fine haha but the chance of abnormalities and issues isn’t worth it to me

Depends a lot on personal circumstances – for me, I would like to finish my PhD, get a lecturing job, work within it for at least a year, plus I would have to change my health care to cover pregnancy and child birth, plus I would have to talk to my cardiologist about how realistic it all is anyway…

So the earliest I could try for my first, if I got a job immediately after postgrad would be 29. Why worry about the latest, what will be will be!

I personally woouldn’t want to have kids after the age of about 35. My ideal age is about 26 (I’m 22 at the moment). I think that it all depends on the individual, but I do get sad when I hear of those crazy stories of women in their 60’s having children. This one woman on 20/20 had a baby in her 60’s and died when the child wasn’t even 10 yet. I felt so sorry for the kid!

Ideally, I’d like to have 2 kids before 30. I’m 26 now, so that will probably not happen but I’m hoping to be done by 32ish.
