I was 19 and fI was 20 🙂 i think it’s considered fairly young in Australia. Most of our friends aren’t even thinking about mortgages and we have friends in their 30s ago are still renting.

@UK Bride:  I’m not sure if we count as younger at 25, but here in the US you can get FHA loans that only require 3.5%, and there are others (USDA and VA) that have stricter requirements but are 0% down, so you could potentially get a house as long as you’re employed and willing to go through a mountain of paperwork. I’d say most people go for the 3.5% down loan, which is way less than that 20%!

(We got an FHA loan on a $122,500 house, only needed $4200.)

Darling Husband bought his house at 25. I never bought a property. He was pretty young for this area to buy a house.

My Fiance and I have decided that when I finish Grand school we are going to look to move to Chicago and start on the path to home-ownership. We are focusing on upping our credit scores before we get hitched so we can be in a better possition to do such. It isnt going to happen tomorrow or next year but it is a part of our 5 year plan

If all goes acording to plan, i will be married and on the path to home ownership by the time I am 30. So will be 34 .I just had to share that with someone.  Tongue Out

I live in Europe, and I see this different pattern of “buying” or “renting” between people in Europe and in the US. Most people here never actually buy homes in their lives, they rent, with different reasons. Most of my friends in Germany rent and they never actually plan to buy one. My friends in France just simply can’t afford buying any home, especially those in Paris. It seems that probably mortgage is rather uncommon, or hard to get.

My husband and I live in Croatia and the trend of buying has been increasing. We just purchased our first home together this year, and I’m 24 and he’s 29. It was somehow right after when we got married. I don’t think we’re too young, but we’re aware it’s not our forever home, so it’s somekind of a stepstone 🙂
