We were both 25 (he just turned 25 two days before he popped the question) when he proposed and we’ll be both 26 when we get married 🙂

@crayfish: Yeah that’s what I assumed people who have been married 50 years and 5 years are all mixed in there together.

i was 26 and hubby was 1 month shy of 28. we started dating when i was 22, and engaged when i was 25. we’re among the first of our friends to get married though, especially of my friends (of our 7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen, although all but 2 bridesmaids are in serious relationships, the only married ones are my bro and sil, and he had 1 engaged groomsman), so the norm in our social circle seems to be a bit older than us

@MissBoston: maybe not too many people under 20 are getting married these days or at least when they did the stats.
Personally, I only know 3 people who got married right after high school and they are divorced.

I’m 20 and will be 20. FH is 23 and will be 24. We have been together for two and a half years, dating for about three on our wedding day.

I was 25, my husband was 31. It was the right time for us.

I was 20 the first time and it was a big mistake. We were both too young. We hadn’t fully become the adults/people we were going to be and we ended up growing into two people who were worlds apart! 3.5 years later, we got divorced. However, there are lots of stories about 20 yr olds getting married and living happily ever after so I know it CAN be done!

I’ll be 23, he’ll be 31. He first married when he was 26ish after five years of dating; divorce certainly isn’t confined to a certain type of relationship or age group.

We were 23/24 but turned 24/25 soon after.  We’d been together nearly 6 years, we own our own home, have substantial savings, and are completely financially independent.  We’ve travelled the world together.  My husband is being paid to pursue his MD and PhD in a joint degree program and I am being paid to pursue my PhD.  We have no debt, educational or otherwise, other than our mortgage, on which we were able to put 30% down.  We were and are in an excellent position to be married.  I’m uncertain as to what I am supposedly missing out on–other men?  No thanks.  Partying?  Not into it.  Travel?  Done that and will continue to do so with my husband because it’s a fun thing to do together.  Education?  We’re about to have three doctorate level degrees between us, so I think we’re all set.  Everyone that is currently married or is about to get married feels that their age at marriage was or is the perfect one–and it is…for them.  So can we please stop with the thinly veiled criticisms of brides under 25 which insinuate that we haven’t seen the world, will sacrifice our education, and are destined to end up divorced and miserable?

@forforever: I will be 31 when I get married. My 20’s were awesome and all about my career and having fun. I did not think seriously about marriage or kids until 29.

@mrsmdphd: LOVE it. Not all of us are poor, uneducated, into partying, and want to do tons of guys to test out the waters of sex before we settle down.
