I cannot stand when others post idiotic things on their Facebook statuses.  I simply delete them, or in the case of some not-too-bright relatives, I hide their status updates from my news feed.

Firstly, it is verbatim, not verbadem.

I would either accept that the written language is not her strongest skill, or defriend her if I could not get past it.

@hiroshymatetrastar:  No worries, heck, six years of University and two degrees later, I still make plenty of mistakes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I wish the bee had auto spell check.

For some people grammar and spelling is just not something they’re strong at/care about

But yes, when it’s so poor I can barely figure out what they meant to say it’s rough. Especially when they’re done by people who went to the same university as me it makes me wonder if my degree is worth the paper it’s printed on…

I have a friend who is the father of 2 who does this regularly… What worries me is when his children are in school, how much of their father’s bad habits will they accept as their own.

I think it’s one thing to be annoyed, but another to be annoyed at her. I’m not sure which you’re doing, but I think it’s an overreaction to be doing the latter.

Do you think she knows better and is doing this intentionally? We learn a lot of our spelling from seeing words written out when we read. If you don’t read much and only ever hear the word “acorns” used in conversation, then “eggcorns” seems like a pretty reasonable way of interpreting what that word is. So maybe the value of reading hasn’t been instilled in her by those who should have made it a priority.

I voted “Other” because I think you are looking at this the wrong way.  I have a Facebook friend (a former coworker), who is a TERRIBLE speller, (okay, actually, I have two others who are only a tiny bit better than she is, but the girl this post is about spelled SHOES incorrectly…who can’t spell SHOES?!?!).  It is mildly annoying, but honestly, I find it humorous to try and decipher her posts.

I mean, really?  EGGCORNS?!  That’s gotta be worth a chuckle to ya!  Instead of letting yourself be bothered by it, look for the humor in them, then shake your head and scroll past.

is it possible she’s posting from an iphone?  My iphone tries to make me sound like an incompetent lunatic all the time.  It likes to autocorrect to totally separate words together into something else that makes no sense at all.  If its not an iphone thing and it’s all the time i second hiding it.

@hiroshymatetrastar:  I had a FB friend that posted updates very similarly to your friend. About 95% of them had spelling mistakes or grammatical mistakes (usually both) and these were pretty obvious and not the ones commonly made by most people.

After a few months of inane updates with all the spelling/punctuation/grammar mistakes, I hid her from my feed. I couldn’t take it anymore.

I also tend to hide the people on my feed that post a lot and use a lot of fragmented sentences with abbreviations (e.g. cuz, u, ne). My background is in editorial and communications so I probably get more bent out of shape than the average person.
