The thread about vacations got me thinking about how outdoorsy I am NOT. I know a ton of people LOVE camping/hiking/biking/boating/anything outside. I do not at all. You couldn’t pay me to sleep in a tent, and it took my husband about two days of convincing to get me to spend a weekend in a cabin (that had indoor plumbing, a tv, and a hot tub lol). It isn’t that I don’t appreciate nature, I’m just not very… hearty? I am always too hot or too cold or there are bugs and mostly I just want to be inside in a nice temperature controlled environment 🙂 I guess the one exception is the beach, but even there I usually want to be out for just a few hours at a time, under a nice big umbrella.
When I was younger I used to try to pretend to be outdoorsy because I feel like that’s the “cool” way to be. But I’m too damn old now to pretend, so I just accept my total non-outdoorsyness.
Just wondering how common people like me are! Tell me about you and the great oudoors.
(The funny thing is, I don’t even really like sitting on patios unless it is a perfect 70 degrees and not too sunny…. lol)

I’m not a fan of camping, hiking etc but I do enjoy sitting outside by pools, on decks or porches, outdoors at restaurants. …but please keep me away from the campground. I like my bed, inside. Toilet, inside. …electricity. lol I guess im an indoorsman.

I generally enjoy being outdoors. I like some hiking, going for long walks, and sitting outdoors. Camping is where I draw the line though. There is no way that I will sleeping on the ground outdoors!

I like nature walks, etc. can tolerate camping, but it’s not what I prefer.

I had a traumatic hiking experience in a foreign country when I twisted my ankle and was left behind on the mountain by my entire group… I still enjoy the occasional hike (with people I trust) but it always brings back bad memories of that experience.
Camping’s not my favorite as I don’t deal well with bugs and cold.
I love the beach and a good bonfire, though!

I love hiking, cycling, and trail running and all that, but I’m not such a fan of camping. Too much stuff to carry and pack. I’m more a daytrip person.

I love the outdoors. Camping is one of my fav things to do. Hikes are always a good time, and I can spend literally an entire day at the beach, in the sand, skipping rocks and swimming in the lake or ocean. I also found a new love in fishing. Yeah, pretty outdoorsy I would say. We’re going to rent a cabin in september as a vacy and do hikes, fishing and enjoy the great outdoors.

I love hiking and camping and biking and swimming! My siblings and I like to go on extended hiking/camping trips in Michigan. Last time we went, it was a bit rough because it rained a lot of the time, and we had all underpacked quite a bit, so we were freeeezing. But it’s so wonderful to be in the woods and not see another human (other than my siblings) for several days!
That said, I would never be able to survive in the wilderness without all my gear. I need my camp stove, filtered water, and headlamps, haha. I don’t know how people survived before plastic and matches.

To be honest I am like two very different people and sometimes it really shocks those getting to know me.
While I love labels, makeup and getting dolled up on a regular basis I have absolutely no trouble roughing it, going on 20+ mile hikes and living in a tent without a guaranteed shower. I always say my dream job is to be a park ranger. I often feel sexiest in my sports bra, t-shirt, shorts and trail runners with just my hair pulled back.

This about sums it up for me.

I used to be, like, Captain Outdoors. Now that I’m older (read: lazier), I’d rather just be sitting somewhere air conditioned!
I tolerate walks and hikes and stuff, but I’m often secretly looking forward to it being over.

I am totally and completely outdoorsy. I love camping, hiking, biking, swimming, running, walking, and pretty much doing anything outdoors, preferably with not another soul except my husband for miles. My DREAM is to hike the PCT all the way through, from Mexican border to the Canadian border. And then the Appalacian Trail. Each take about 6 months and who knows if I will ever be able to have the chance to do that, but boy would I love to. When we buy a house, secluded acreage in a wooded location are absolute musts. I am also an introvert so I feel like my love of the outdoors fits with my personality.

I freaking hate bugs. And getting dirty or sweaty isn’t really my thing either. I love lakes, beaches, etc on vacation but I have not and will not ever tent camp. I grew up camping with all the amenities in a 30′ RV and even that is roughing it sometimes for me!
I also have a small range of temperatures I’m comfortable in. Humidity is gross, anything above about 70 is too hot for me unless I am in a bikini at water.

The last couple time I went camping I got food poisoning. Ugh, I just stay home when Fiance wants to go now.

I love camping, backpacking, hiking, mountain biking… I’ve even learnt to deal with the bugs since living in Ghana! I can go 4 days without washing my hair, as long as I can clean off the body every day! All of this is mostly because of my dad, because whenever I saw him (parents are divorced), we’d do something outdoors. He lived in Colorado for a while! ultimate outdoorsy state!
But I also love dressing up and going to bars, dancing, going out to eat, museums, watching movies, reading, shopping. SLEEPING. almost forgot that key indoor activity. All of this is because of Mom, who was a city girl all her life. I guess my parents instilled the best of both worlds! 🙂
