How much of your wedding ‘stuff’ (dress, invitations, menus, etc etc) are you showing people before the wedding? Does it make a difference who the other person is (your mom, a friend, some random friend of your parents…)?
I’m torn between wanting to show off some of the stuff I’ve worked HARD on to some of my close friends/family, and wanting there to be surprises on the wedding day.
What really irritates me though, is my mother keeps showing everyone my half-finished stuff when I’m not even around. Grr. She forwarded some random unedited engagement photoshoot photos to my grandparents, who proceeded to forward the email on to all their friends. She then showed a bunch of her friends the digital version of the custom photobook I had made for our guestbook, before the thing was even printed. I’m happy that she is excited about it, but I’d at LEAST like to be there for the “Oh that’s nice” comments after I slave away for hours on something.

This wasn’t really an issue for me, because my mother is the only person who would have cared and she lives on the other side of the country. And I didn’t email her anything unfinished. 🙂 I suppose I was fairly secretive just by default, which was nice because it’s fun for people to be surprised on the wedding day. On the other hand, so much of what made our wedding stunning was the beauty of the venue, and even looking at online photos couldn’t have communicated that to people.

I’m only showing a couple people things. But its easy for me since most of my friends and family are out of state. I can’t keep everything a secret because I need some outside opinions at times but other than that I’m not planning on sharing much. Have you tried talking to your mom about keeping your stuff more private? I’m sure she’s not doing it intentionally 🙂 Moms just get excited about this stuff.

I wanted to keep lots of things secret, but I’m just too excited to keep my mouth shut! But the things that are personal/going to really surprise people I’m determined to keep secret.

I’m not secretive at all! In fact (and this might have driven you crazy)… I didn’t even get to tell anyone except my mom and friends that I was engaged. We got engaged when we were in Mexico on the first day of a week long vacation. I called my mom that day and emailed a few friends, but calls were $8 per MINUTE so we decided to wait until we got home to call anyone else. Except she told everyone. lol. I was actually totally fine with it.
I’ve shown lots of people the picture of me trying on my dress. In fact at the wedding my Fiance might be the only one who is surprised haha. Basically if someone asks I’m willing to show them whatever. I think its nice that people are interested enough to ask and be excited for us, and I’m not really looking to shock anyone with the wedding. I hope that when they see everything in person, finished, and all together they’ll just feel like the whole thing is fun and US and everyone has a good time. 🙂
