I’m going to my FI’s Office Christmas Party tonight. It’s at a nice place downtown.
I brought a cocktail dress into work that I’m planning on wearing, but I’m wondering if it is too short.
It’s black, 3/4 sleeve and has a higher neck (so no cleavage or arms showing), but it has an asymmetrical hem.
One side is mid thigh, the other side is almost down to the knee.
I will be wearing black tights with it too (and am undecided on whether I’m wearing chunky patent leather pumps, or my suede flat black boots).
What are your thoughts? Does this sound too short/risque for an office party?
Also, the skirt flows away from the body, so it’s not super tight or form fitting.
Here it is on the hanger. Neck goes more straight across when it is on, almost to the tip of the shoulder.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about, especially if you’re going to wear black tights, too.

It’s hard to tell without seeing it on your body, but that doesn’t look too short to me! My rule of thumb is if it goes below your fingertips it’s good (that was our high school dress code for shorts and skirts, haha).

I think it’s fine. You could always use the “Catholic Ruler”. If your dress is past your fingertips when your hands are on your side, reaching down you’re probably okay. The general rule of thumb is at least an inch or two.

@MandaMack: The high side is right at or maybe a smidgen above my fingertips. The low side is definitely below.
I was trying to find a pic of me IN the dress. but all the ones I have are side shots from the waist up!
I put it on for Fiance this morning and he said it was fine… but I’m not sure he actually looked up from his computer.

I think its iffy – I wouldn’t wear anything for a work/office related event that wasn’t clearly below my fingertips. So unless you have really long arms or something, I’d try to find a different dress.

@Mrs.KMM: I am VERY short waisted… so my arms go farther down my legs than a normal person. I’ll see how it looks with tights before I leave the office. If it looks too short, I’ll just wear my work clothes instead. (Can’t go home and change between work and the party)

You are fine with a shorter dress and tights. In fact I have several cocktail dresses that I only wear in the winter, b/c they are too short to wear w/o tights 🙂

definitely doesn’t look or sound too short!

I don’t think it’s that short-plus you’re wearing tights and no boobs are showing so I think you are all good for an office party. The trick is to only show off one body part at a time. So show a little leg!
