Do you happen to have any forward-facing pictures of the dress? It’s kind of difficult to decide on alterations because we are really only able to see the back. As is, I would say it looks lovely. What is it about the first dress you got that you’re not so happy about in this dress??

I definitley like the idea of changing it to a swetheart neckline, but as PP said, it is difficult to tell what needsto be done fom a back shot.

I would leave the train as it is, as most of the night it will be bustled anyway, and I don’t think a mermaid shape would look right because the way the bodice is styled.

I think it looks fine the way it is.  I’m not even sure how a sweetheart neckline would look with the way the fabric is gathered though.

Thanks so much for adding a front shot! I guess I asked how it was different from your first dress because you seem to have liked that one much better. So where’s the gap? Where is the difference that you really liked in that dress and don’t like about this dress? Everyone’s going to have a different opinion because we’re all different people. Are you hoping that this dress is more blingy, or the skirt has more character/fuller or the ruching was slightly different?

I am not sure if the sweetheart will work the way the fabric is at the top like BoiledPNut said. I actually really like that part and I am a huge lover of the sweetheart typically. I think you should add something like lace to come out underneath the train and change the back to a corset back.I think that will make it look more “wow”.

I like the idea of making it a fit and flare or even a sheath.  I think that would add a lot of interest.  To give you and other posters an idea of what I’m thinking I’m attaching two pictures of a dress I tried on (not the one I bought) where I probably would have wanted to do the same thing.  You can see what a different this alteraton will make!

One more thing!  I tend to agree that changing the neckline to a sweetheart probably wouldn’t look that great, but you could definitely give it more of a dip.

Have you considered adding crinoline or a petticoat?

I would add a sweetheart neckline and a crystal belt.
