I wouldn’t think that they would get mad at you for being engaged, but I’m thinking that there is more to this.

I wouldn’t wait until the end of March. Unless there’s something else going on like PP suggested, I don’t know why you wouldn’t have been on the phone the next day. The longer you wait the more hurt they will be!

I called my parents the night it happened!  Why not just call them?  Is there something else to this story you’re not telling us?

They certainly need to know very soon! They will feel hurt if you don’t tell them right away..Do you not want to tell them you are engaged or are you worried they won’t want you to go see him where he is?

@militaryblackett:  Maybe you should have him talk to your parents first then, if they are “more conservative and old fashioned” that might make them happier with the whole situation. Then when you come home with a ring they won’t feel like they have missed out on something.
