We are having our wedding in Lake Tahoe at a very popular summer vacation spot. The venue coordinator told us that our guests should reserve their rooms one year in advance to ensure availability. How do I inform my guests this without breaking etiquette rules. Do I send out my invitation now? Wedding isn’t until aug 2013

well i sent my invites about 5 – 6 months in advance. i sent Save-The-Date Cards though as soon as i had a date and venue booked which was about 9 months before. In case, i would send a detailed STD as soon as you can. However, i would not count on all your guest booking that early! anything can happen and it’s just not something they are likely to be concerned about at this point or any have idea if they are able to go…… is there any way for you to reserve the rooms yourself now?

Send out a save the date with your wedding website. List possible hotels in the Tahoe area, and the necessity of booking early.

Yes you can send save the dates right away with all the information you need (maybe a link to a website of the wedding..?) and make a website with all the infomation you need. I used mywedding.com. it’s free and they’re really simple, have thousands of designs for you to pick and very easy too.
A good thing about your wedding is that you can leave the invitation for last minute to the people you don’t want to go! LOL..

@WhityMarie: I think you can come up with your own set of rules, with Destination Wedding people need to be well informed early on. I sent out save the dates 12 months before (with just the location ie city, country) so people can start saving or mark it in the calender etc. Then I am making a wedding website which should be finished next month (9 months out). And then will send invites 6 months out with rsvp 4 months out. I have to pay and finalise everything 3 months out.

Went mailed out our STD’s which had our wedding website on it with all of the travel information for our guests. These were sent out about 14 months in advance and then at the 6 month mark we mailed out formal invitations. We also have to pay and finalize most details about 2 months before the wedding. So I would work on a wedding website and getting STD’s sent out soon. =]

@Whity: I don’t have any advice, but I’m a Tahoe bride too! Have you chosen a photographer/cake bakery?

Wedding invitations are still 8-12 weeks out beofre the date. They do not determine when guests should book their lodging though!
Send out an STD card with a wedding website link (tons of free ones) and put teh information on there. I had a wedding planned for Jackson Hole and I had a lengthy link on accomdations and how you had to book early (similar to Tahoe).
However, with my wedding (which was cancelled) people did not book anything even at the 4-5 month mark surprisingly. Not even a hotel or ticket! So don’t be alarmed if people are not booking stuff 12 months in advance.
