I always intended to change it, and started the process immediately.

I always intended to change it, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

I never planned to change it, and I didn't.

I never planned to change it, but changed my mind and did it anyway.

I fully intend to make the change within days of getting married 😉 lol We can’t afford a real honeymoon so I’ll have plenty of time the week following the wedding to go down town and do it 🙂

I’m in Ontario and my understanding is you must wait 12 weeks here according to the Registrar. We were married in October and just applied last week. It arrived priority. Now to change my name. Yay! DH is really happy about it, I’m excited too. The only thing that is staying the same for now is my passport because our honeymoon was booked under my maiden name.

MrsSawyer This was the only reason I got around to changing my name!  I figured that DH would not appreciate having his baby have my Ex-husband’s last name.  Damn.  That sounds really trashy as I type it.

I got married on November 16 and officially changed my name on December 5th.

When you order your new SS card you can use that notice/receipt they give you (saying that you changed your name and your new SS card will arrive in X days/weeks) and go to the DMV to get a new license. Then use the new license to change everything else. I got mine all done in a day.

I started using my new name at work and online (Facebook, etc.) immediately.  I changed it with the SSA and DMV a few days after I received a certified copy of our marriage certificate, so about 6 weeks after the wedding.  I managed to change my bank accounts, credit card, and a few miscellaneous things (gym, library) before I got burnt out.  Maybe for our first anniversary I will get around to the rest (utilities, insurance, doctors….).  The list seems endless!

i changed everything asap! I love my new last name and wanted to change it asap and it also made my husband really happy that I chose to do that. He would have never pressured me but is happy I made the choice.

I oly just changed mine last week, obs the date in my title isnt right, but its been nearly a year since we got married. The oly reason i changed my name was because DH didnt think o us as being officially married because of it..Its really  not that much of an issue to me. The other reason is because we are expect our first baby in a little over 2 months and where i live, the baby automaticaly takes on the mothers last name. So i bit the bullit and changed it..

I changed mine the week we got home from our honeymoon. I arrived at the SS office when it opened and was in and out w/in 5 miutes. I went to DMV that day (with a same day apt) with my marriage license & paper receipt from the SS office and had my name changed on my license. I called it my “identity change day.” I love my new last name way more! I still have a hard time introducing myself first and last name because I’ve always been Ashley so and so and now I’m ashley e. It’s different but I like it and now I have a really common name which I love! The last major name change was on my passport which I was slow to do but only because I had to get new passport photos taken, and i got my new passport in the mail a few weeks ago!!! Also my old last name sounds a lot like Arias, you know like Jamie Arias the girl who is on trial right now for murdering her boyfriend in Airzona, so I’m happy to have a new last name =)

@starfish0116:  I got married in Feb and made the name change on facebook today. I had gotten a comment from a friend’s mom telling me to update my name!

I still haven’t changed my name on my SS card because I’m not taking time off work to get it done. It’s also best to wait and change your name after your tax return has been accepted. I’m not comfortable sending that information in the mail either. When I have a day off and the SSA office is open I’ll get it done, although that should be this week! It will take me until June 30 to get my name changed everywhere. (That’s when I have to have my teaching certificate renewed by.)

I started the process the same week we returned from our honeymoon. It honestly isn’t as hard as it sounds. I waited about 30 minutes at the SS office (and the DDS too) and I live in a heavily populated area.

There’s no option for me– I got married in November and just started the process last week.  Part laziness, part business and part travel-related fear that I’d be stranded at an airport with conflicting IDs and be thrown in TSA jail.

Don’t know when I’ll be changing my name. I’ve got a medical file and other stuff that’s still under my maiden name which will probably stay that way for now since I haven’t had a chance to get over to the SS office or anything like that yet.

With that said, I’m planning on at least using his last name socially. (Like I used it to sign the “attendance book” in church the other day. I also changed my FB name so that it’s Firstname Maidenname Lastname; that’s what my sister and my mom did.
