I always intended to change it, and started the process immediately.

I always intended to change it, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

I never planned to change it, and I didn't.

I never planned to change it, but changed my mind and did it anyway.

If it is so important to him, maybe he can take the time to go with you 🙂 That way you can keep each other company.

I changed it a month after the wedding, mostly becuase I knew if I put it off any longer I’d never get around to it, and DH was really antsy to add me to his bank accounts and I needed my name changed before we did that.

If you take a day off work and go to the SS office early, its not so bad.  I waited about 20 minutes, took a book to read.  Apparently you can make an appointment ahead of time to make it go a little faster.  And they gave me a print-out of the change, so even though I wasn’t going to get my card for a few weeks, that worked as a stand-in, so I was able to do the DMV change the same day and get added to DH’s accounts a few days later.

I also lucked out in that DH and I work at the same company, and the secretary/accountant is a family friend and thus was invited to the wedding, because she was super pro-active and had my name changed in the company records and added me to DH’s insurance super fast.  I think she did it a week or so before the wedding!

That’s all that’s gotten switched over so far, but I’m just going to switch over all the stupid little things as they come up.  Especially since we’re moving in a month or 2, perfect time to notify places and say, oh yeah, my name changed too.

If he doesn’t think it’s a big deal to go through the name change process, then why doesn’t he just go ahead and change his name to yours? ;-P  You have a whole lot riding on your name, so I understand if there is a part of you that is reluctant.  How will that work when clients pay you?  You’ll likely get lots of payments made out to the name of your business.  Will you have to tell people that you need a new check made out to a different name?

@starfish0116:  OMG…yes.  I changed it on Facebook.  Why can’t that be enough?  🙂  Although my DH finally let it go like, a year into our marriage, thank God!

I changed mine about a month after being married. We had the holidays, Christmas, New Years all after our wedding, so it was a super busy time!

We were legally married in August with our wedding in October. I changed it at Social Security the week before our wedding. It was easy ( I live in New Husband and have a SS office in my city) Took 15 minutes maybe. I also changed my drivers lisence that same day and the new one came 3 weeks or so later. I changed it at work the day I returned from our mini-moon and at banks and stuff during that week as well so I guess for everything it took about a month to be completey switched over.

I changed my facebook the night of the wedding back at the hotel and my voice mail on my phone the next day. I have a friend who’s voicemail still says her maiden name 4 years after her wedding…

We got married in February…and I had my name changed 2 weeks afterwards.  I would have done it immediately but we had to go on a honeymoon and all.  🙂  I did however get my new license plates the spring before we got married.  They are personalized and say my married name.
