I think typically you would get your venue first so that you know what to match. That being said, I got my dress before we got anything else, but I had looked at pricing and knew what I wanted everything to look like.

I found my dress about 9 months out but didnt actually order it until 8 months out. I really wanted to be sure about and didnt want to rush and buy it and then regret it later. Personally I wouldnt advice buying a dress more than a year ahead, I know some brides do it successfully but there will be newer designs released if you buy too early and you may see something else you like even more

We are almost to the end of our 18-month engagement, we got engaged in September of 2009 and I bought my dress on January 2nd of 2010 for our late March 2011 wedding. As long as you know you love it (and will still love it in a year or more!), theres no problem with buying your dress early ๐Ÿ™‚

Dress 1 – Six months before wedding. Dress 2 – Ordered one month before wedding. I didn’t think it would make it in time but it did!

You were just like me…totally on the ball with everything! I bought/ordered my dress in June 2010 for my July 2011 wedding. We were engaged in Feb. 2010 so I had a head start and didn’t wait to do much of anything. I think as long as you know that is the dress for you and you won’t change your mind then you should order it when you find it. But if you think you might need to wait, I would! I knew exactly when I put my dress on that it was going to be MY dress so I ordered it. I am so happy I made the decision and have not once wanted another dress รขโ‚ฌโ€œ just another thing to check off the list, also!

I only have a 1 year engagement, so couldn’t have gotten it any earlier.  I went shopping at 10 months out, to give myself plenty of time and no pressure.  Then, surprise, I found the dress on my first outing.  I went back to the store two weeks later to put down a deposit and order the dress.  However, I won’t be getting alterations started for another couple weeks, so that’ll be less than three months out.

I got the actual dress I wore at my wedding the week before.

I had purchased a dress from a consignment store a couple of months back. After looking at the pictures I’d taken in the store I started having some second thoughts… but I was getting some alterations done so I thought maybe I’d fall in love with it again after it was all fixed up to fit me perfectly.

BIG NO. The girl who did the alterations completely botched the hell out of my dress. I gave her a chance to fix it, but at the second fitting it still looked like a hot mess. I knew it was time to start panicking.

After a big drawn out argument/negotiation with the girl and the shop manager, they agreed that my dress was irreparable and started pulling other dresses that I could exchange the first dress for. It was by sheer luck that just days earlier they got a new consignment dress that was absolutely perfect for me.

I don’t know what they ended up doing with the messed up dress, but I had my gorgeous perfect dress pressed and cleaned just in time for my flight to NY!

I got my first dress 11 months before the wedding. Then I had dress regret and bought another one 5 months before – had to pay a rush fee for it!

Got mine a few weeks ago, so about 13 months in advance. It was on sale, so I went for it. ๐Ÿ™‚
