I lost my kitten a month ago and it was very emotional, I was told she was PKD neg and this was not the case so I lost her when she was only 6 years old. I was very attached to her, she was my baby. I still miss her very much.
I know I will want another cat and have been browsing for one recently but I do not want for this to be a rebound kitten. SO also wants to wait until we move next August.

My dog was killed by a bobcat two years ago, and I was a trainwreck. I ended up getting another dog I think a month and a half later, and really think it was a bad idea. Everything she did that was “wrong” I broke down and started crying because if my other dog was still around this wouldn’t be happening etc.. I feel like if I would have waited at least another month or two, I would have been able to really give her the attention she needed from the very beginning.

First, I am so sorry for your loss. 🙁
I think you’ll know when the time is right. I lost my first cat a few years ago, and wasn’t ready for another cat until about four months later. I wasn’t looking, she was in a Petsmart where rescues rent out the cages. But when I saw her, I knew she was the cat for me. And she has been my kitty soulmate ever since.

I think next August might be a long time to wait. What if you talk and come to an agreement that you will try not to get a cat until then, but if the perfect one comes along (as Lilyfaith mentioned) then you would get her.
