I purchased my gown in Sept. 09, at the second place I went to try on gowns. I will be picking it up in a few weeks, but won’t be getting alterations done until Feb or so 2011.

I am getting married July 24.  I got engaged in Nov. ’09.  I started doing some dress shopping as soon as I was engaged but didn’t get serious until Feb.  I think I bought my dress at the end of Feb, or beginning of March.  I had to pay and extra $150ish to have it rushed.  The dress in late May and I just went in yesterday for the first fitting.

I bought my dress just over a week after getting engaged (and I didn’t have a short engagement or anything – Sept 4 2009).

I did have an odd situation though.  I was living in CA at the time and my parents live in IN.  They had planned a trip (prior to my getting engaged) to visit me in CA the weekend after I got engaged.  Since this was one of the only times I’d be with my mom during my engagement, she wanted to go look at wedding dress (not expecting to find one but just to have the experience of shopping with her daughter).  Well we found “the one”!

I don’t think its ever too early to start looking.  You just have to stop looking after you find “the one” because there will always be more dresses out there.  Just trust what you’ve found once you find it!

I got engaged December 2009 and am getting married October 29, 2011. I bought my dress a month ago (actually, paid the balance off today!). I was a bit worried that I chose too soon, but when I went back and saw it today, I KNEW it was the one!

Good luck on the dress hunt!

I think everyone does it differently and I probably should have started earlier. I’m getting married in Feb 11 and I haven’t even started yet… feeling like I’m way behind!

I am getting married June 11, 2011 also! I got engaged on April 15 and started dress shoping about 2 weeks ago (we waited for school/finals to be done). I still have not found “the one” but I am enjoying the shopping process. We are hoping to find/purchase one before the end of the month- but that is because I start rotations then that will last until 1 month before the wedding and most will be out of my home town.

Im getting married in April 2011 and I purchased my gown two weeks ago…my dress is only coming in in november and the designer wants to start my fittings the DAY it comes in…but that might be my bridal shop being over cautious

I started about  11 months in advance for fun, went about once a month and took it slow. I ended up buying one about 8 months early.

I bought mine today!!! Completely a year in advance. I wasn’t planning to buy so early but the store I went told me it would take 6-9 months to get in and I know it will need to be altered so I wanted plenty of time.

I bought my dress about 13 months ahead of time. I wasn’t in a rush, I just fell in love with one that was going out of production. I think some people who buy too far in advance start second guessing their decision.
