Fiance and I just got engaged a week ago and are planning on a Sept 8, 2012 wedding date. Well I’ve started planning and even bought my dress today (I got a deal on it for $400 yay!) Anyway, I’ve gotten a few comments about moving kind of fast. Now I have a few weeks before my work schedule gets CRAZY and I can’t plan for 2-3 months so I’m trying to get a few things accomplished church, venue, etc. Do you think this is too soon to plan? I’m only 9 months out.

I believe that you need to look into booking your venues soon. I have noticed that things tend to book up fast and alot of the times a year in advance so that is something that I think you should get started on. IMO, you are not going to fast.

NOW!!! Don’t wait too much longer cause many vendors will book up soon & you don’t want to have to compromise.

The earlier the better. (I think I book my venue within a week or two of being engaged…) Have you purchased or looked at a wedding planner? This can tell you what you should be doing and help you prioritize your planning. But if you were planning a September wedding I would not listen to those people and start booking now!

I don’t think its too soon at all. Maybe it seems like it because you haven’t been engaged long, but the date is 9 months away!
My wedding is Sept 22 and I’ve had everything booked since April 2011…but that’s because we’re getting married in Ireland and wanted to be able to tell people way in advanced

We are planning for a year after you and we are starting to run in to things ALREADY being booked. September is a really popular time in the midwest for weddings because it’s more ideal weather than the summer. We’ve already been turned away from one vendor because their only availability was in NOVEMBER 2013!
As for the dress, you can explain that a dress is supposed to be ordered between 6-8 months in advance if it had to be ordered and altered. Or you can argue that wedding things are cheaper in the off-season than in the summer.

It’s definitelny never too soon! We booked our wedding venue 13 months before our wedding! Especially if you expect to be busy the next few month, I would try to get a lot done now. Planning can get overwhelming quickly. Also, go to weddingwire.com- they have a very helpful checklist that you can follow month by month so you know you’re on the right track.

I don’t want to freak you out, but my wedding is the same date as yours and I have all but 1 vendor booked. You still have time and you can do this, but you need to act soon. My advice: find your venue ASAP. Everything else was not that difficult to nail down, but really there were very few decent venues availible for a saturday in peak season when I looked 3 months ago. Good luck

My wedding is in november and i have almost all of my vendors. You are not moving fast it will make it less stressful when you have all the big stuff booked and taken care of. Alot of things book up fast. I had a really hard finding a weekend open from sep to dec. So book now. Good luck and happy planing

Hey if you are going to be busy (like my Fiance and I are..he is a resident and I work and am a full-time student) and you can get a head start..good for you! You got the important thing done..the dress. I suggest you get the venue down too because I booked mine with ten months to go and was so thankful because you never know what can happen.

It is definitely NOT too early. If you’re getting married this year, you need to get on it! 🙂 Venues book FAST and FAR IN ADVANCE.

Not too soon! I got engaged Christmas and have booked photographer, DJ, venue, DOC and am in talks with catering and the officient. I have already been told I am getting really late to order a gown and have been told by LOTS of people that they are booked up for every Friday/Saturday in July.
I had this same problem with my Fiance and I am glad I listened to the advice on here and booked. My venue told me today that they had over 15 emails since New Years looking for a venue and she had maybe 6 in December. Book now while you can get what you want 🙂

Oh don’t worry guys I have the venue on a 14 day hold until my Fiance can look at it so the date is reserved for us and no one else can book it for this 14 day period.
The date at the church is open and we are meeting with them on Wednesday to book that. The DJ will probably be a friend of mine who does that. The florist I’m looking at is a friend of FI’s so she’s already giving us a deal and I’m meeting with her in early Feb.
The other big things I haven’t done are the photographer and the cake.
I just felt annoyed with their comments I guess.
