My last period was really bizarre. It came 5 days early and it was 5 days of spotting, rather than two days of steady flowing and then tapering off (like normal). This was the first weird period I had gotten in years and I’m usually like clockwork. At this point, we were TTC. Anyway, I was not pregnant.

That said, you could have been experiencing implantation bleeding (which is somewhat common). It probably won’t hurt to test today with a FRER but I would wait until you are significantly closer to your expected day as the percentage of accuracy is rather low until you get to about a day or two prior. So you could be pregnant but haven’t produced enough of the hormone to yield a positive. Ideally, I would wait until the day you are due or after.

@Brideonabudgetlauren:  First Response, Early Result. I normally just buy the pack of three and there’s often a coupon on the outside for $1 off (if you buy it at a regular store). http://www.amazon.com/First-Response-Result-Pregnancy-Packaging/dp/B000052XHI

If you really want to test super early and often, try the dollar store tests. Those are supposedly pretty accurate. Or you can get the Wondfo. http://www.amazon.com/Wondfo-Pregnancy-Test-Strips-25-count/dp/B0002YIQEQ

If your period is still a week away, then what you’re probably experiencing are ovulation cramps and mid-cycle spotting. It’s not unusual for women to ovulate late every once in awhile. It could be implantation spotting, which typically occurs around 8-10 days past ovulation, but it might still be too early for that. Since you don’t know your ovulation date, I’d until your period is supposed to start to test. Keep in mind, if you did ovulate a week or so late, your period will also be late.

@Brideonabudgetlauren:  I did that once too haha… Some weird symptoms that I googled and by the end of it i was completely convinced I was pregnant. Like you, it was about 1 week pre AF… So there was nothing to do but wait…. Turns out I wasn’t pregnant and a week later things were back to normal. Try not to stress (which I know is really hard) :/.

If you’re ever having severe lower abdominal pain, you should go to the emergency room. Especially in women, there are a lot of things it could be that aren’t so good.

@Brideonabudgetlauren:  Do you have an update? Implantation spotting is actually not very common. Most women don’t experience it. I would chalk it up to a random weird cycle and test the day after your missed AF is supposed to be here. Good luck 🙂

I recommend buying some cheapo tests on amazon to keep around. Ever since we started using just the pull out method (same mind set as you– we’re not trying but we wouldn’t be upset if it happened) it is hard not to wonder if anything is weird. I got a 50 pack of the cheapo tests for $16 and now whenever I’m like hmmmmmm I can just test and not worry about it.

(also, i’m convinced our bodies are out to just mess with us. I generally always have 28-29 day cycles. then last month was 35 days and this month was 27. what? lol)
