I’ve heard it can take up to six months but I had mine in about a month (about 6 years ago) and Darling Husband got his this year in March – about a month I would say. For you, I would say get it done sometime before the end of 2012 just to be super-safe. It doesn’t take that long so might as well get it done sooner before you get closer to the wedding and busy with a million other things 🙂

I’m with the “now” camp. You can never be sure how long they will actually take. I think mine took two months to get.

Are you changing your last name? You have to get a new one when you change your last name so you might end up having to pay for a whole new one right after your honeymoon which is a bummer.

If you’re going to change your name then you would need to wait till after the wedding, because if you don’t you will have to carry your birth certificate with you everytime you go out of the country…or have to get a whole new one with your new name, and those little suckers are not cheap..they’re about $140.00

We procrastinated (heavily) and were really lucky: we applied for our passports on Sept. 12, and had them in our hands on Sept. 21!
That being said: Go ahead and get them now! Why not? It’s one less thing to worry about as you get closer to the wedding, and you never know what the processing times may be.

No charge to change your name if the request is put in within one year of issue! So get your passport now, and remember to send it in to be updated with your married name when you return from your honeymoon 🙂

Sometimes it takes a few weeks, sometimes it takes much longer. It depends on if it’s your first time getting passports, in which it takes much longer!
