I tested positive earlier this week. Last week I made an appointment with my doctor to follow up on some medication I’m on (already been approved for use in pregnancy for me). The appointment I made is for September 2nd. Do I need to call and book an earlier appointment given the new positive HPT, or is my appointment on the 2nd soon enough? How quickly did your doctors want to see you?

Usually they won’t see you until 6-8 weeks unless you are spotting or if something else is wrong

My doctor told me to come in right way for blood tests as soon as I get a positive test. But by “right away”, I would assume she meant “within a couple days”. September 2nd is probably fine. If you’re really uncertain, can you email or call your doctor’s office and ask if they’d prefer to see you sooner?

I think I came in around what was supposed to be 6-7 weeks or so? It was just bloodwork

pink_champagne: well aside from getting the blood tests done to confirm, and the first dating U/S ….Ive only “seen” walk in clinic doctors….and it was basically just for that. I got pg faster then expected and hadnt set up a family doctor yet lol…. so I’m actually 14w today and will be having my first REAL appt on tuesday NEXT WEEK!
When I went in to get my official blood test done I asked the walk in guy what I had to do and he said really nothing until your at least 6-8 weeks….he set me up with an U/S and I did that at 8.5 weeks…..I went back in to go over the results and get the form to have the NT scan done (for chromosomal abnormalities) because that test needs to be done by the end of 12w or else its too late. But I havent had any kind of exams done or anything. At the time I had called the maternity clinic to get a doctor (where I will be going from now on) but they couldnt fit me in until now….they said theres no issues in waiting unless when I was at the walk in clinic they saw reason I would be high risk (high blood pressure….anything out of the ordinary in my blood tests, heavy cramping, or any bleeding, or if my last pap was abnormal etc) otherwise they said I could wait until I got in.

pink_champagne: Like others have said, many doctors won’t even see you until after 8 weeks. I would call, though, and let them know you’re pregnant – hopefully they can just make a note that the appointment you already have scheduled will be a prenatal appointment (rather than just a consult for meds).

My OB saw me right away but I have to be on blood thinners during pregnancy. Normally it sounds like they make you a “new OB” appointment at ~8 weeks along with an ultrasound that day. I’d just call and ask.

pink_champagne: My first appointment wasn’t until 11 weeks. We heard the heartbeat with the Doppler and they took blood and we talked a lot about me and my husband’s family medical history. Congrats to you and good luck!

I just posted a thread with a similar question. I decided to just call my doctor and let her know I’d become pregnant, and I’m glad I did because they canceled my existing appointment and gave me a new, earlier one. Maybe they won’t change your appointment, but it’s good for them to know that you’re pregnant so they can be prepared to give you a test or do whatever it is they want to do.

My first appt was at 10 weeks, 3 days. I had an ultrasound that day.

My office schedules you for a 6 week appointment when you call to tell them you got a positive test as long as you don’t have a history of issues or are having anything troubling like spotting or irregular pain.

Thank you for sharing. I will give them a call and see what they say. I just didn’t want to be a pain in the ass.
