So, in my mind destination meant going somewhere fancy and tropical, but I guess Destination Wedding can refer to people having to travel on a plane to get there.
We’re getting married about an hour outside of NYC, but really only a small number of people we’re inviting, (10ish out of like, 70 “groups”) live in NYC…basically everyone else would have a long drive or plane trip.
This being the case, how soon should I sent the STD? I was thinking 6 months would be good, though I’ve been reading about October weddings having STD sent in January and Feburary. This seems a BIT early to me, but I don’t know…since travel is required, is it better to give even more time?
Thanks!

I would give more time than 6 months, especially if it is a destination. I don’t see a downside in giving people a lot of time to plan for it.

I would take advatage of killing two birds with one stone and send them out with your Christmas cards (or similarly timed if you don’t do Christmas cards).
Like many people I have to submit my “leave plan” at the beginning of the year, so it’s nice to know that I’ll definitely need to use some time in such and such month for a wedding, and really save thate date.

I plan on sending mine out in January because 75% of our guests are traveling to the wedding (some from OOC, too.) It is early, but I would like to let everyone have time to figure out flights, and for us to start getting a count for hotel blocks, etc..
@SapphireSun: We are actually skipping the thought of sending them in December so that they don’t get mixed with all the christmas cards, I feel like they will get lost in all that chaos!

Not as many people are taking vacations in October so I think you will be fine at 6-7 months out. We sent ours 6-7 months beforehand for our August wedding…a time when many people go on vacation. Also, we just got the STD for a friends wedding memorial day weekend which is 7 months out – they are having a wedding on one of the biggest traveling weekends of the year so I think if anything they would send them earlier than most and I think this is an appropriate amount of time. People arent going to be buying plane tickets that early anyways and the majority of people dont need to give that much notice for vacation time
