Why would cupcakes need to be cut?  That’s the whole purpose of them, they’re finger food, no cutting needed.  Weirdness!  I wouldn’t pay for that one.

There should not be a cake cutting fee if you are serving cupcakes. That would be a deal breaker for me.I am cheap though…. Lol

Agreed with PP. I would only consider paying for a cake cutting fee if they have to actually re-plate the cupcakes afterwards. Most caterers that charges a cake cutting fee usually cuts the cake and puts it on a plate with a few little side decorations (e.g. fruit). If guests are helping themselves, I consider it more of a dessert bar/buffet and I don’t think there should be a cake cutting fee associated with that.

Yeah…there should be no cutting fee for cupcakes.  Is she possibly under the impression that you’re having a wedding cake instead of cupcakes?  Or maybe, if you’re reading this in a contract, she forgot to edit the plating fee out?

I don’t know if it’s standard to charge a cutting fee for cupcakes, but I sure think it’s unreasonable!

Just to reiterate – This is totally unnecessary! The cutting fee should only apply when the caterers have to cut and serve the cake. That’s absolutely ridiculous.

We did not pay a cutting fee for our cupcakes.  We had a small cutting cake for ourselves and were not charged for that, either, since we did the cutting (one slice) and supplied our own keepsake knife and server.

Are you having them hand it out to the guests or are the guests self-serving themselves from a table/stand/display? I’m confused as to what they are cutting or even handling at all- cupcakes are finger foods! When we were looking into cupcakes we asked about this & all our vendors looked at us like we were crazy and agreed- cupcakes are finger foods, what do you need cut? No way would I pay that unless you are asking them to serve your guests instead of having them serve themselves….

This sounds like a plating fee, which is pretty crappy since your guests will be serving themselves.

chargedWe were charged the fee, but they waived it if we bought dessert from them. So we will have both dessert and cupcakes because I wasn’t paying the fee!
